Check out the K&M and Gravity stands. They let the headhones hang freely without compressing the ear pads.

Here's a snapshot of my current setup, minus a bunch of headphones and a couple amps not currently connected (see gear in signature for the rest along with cables and power).

All 4 amps shown are connected -- Folkvangr is RCA from Loki Max, and the other 3 are on the ONE Little Bear XLR 1-in-3-out switch (X = Ragnarok 2, Y = Mjolnir 3, Z = Mjolnir 2). This is so I can choose which amps I'd like to pair with the headphone and music I'm listening to, or just choose how much warmer I want the room to be. :) It's like a space heater with 4 temperature settings!

Edit: Also yes, this is somewhat bananas for a desktop rig.

I don't know about that.

My main system has 3 headphone amps that can be used at any given time (no switching necessary); one of those is also the system preamp that drives an electronic crossover + class D amp + big 2-way speakers + sub.

At least in my experience, "somewhat bananas" is a relative thing...

And all of that is on your computer desk? If so, that is indeed bananas, and it must be a strong desk.

What a terrific price. I hear you should spend as much on your stand as on your headphone, DAC, and amp.
There is no formula for that. Some people say the headphone stands scale greatly with proper upstream gear :p
