Shanling M6 Player - New version with ESS DACs coming soon

Huh. Ok, I went and ordered a suction cup for phone repair. I'll let you know how that goes. Thanks for the suggestion.

...in unrelated issues: the volume wheel on the M6 has been acting weird for a while now, randomly dialing the volume either up or down, regardless of which direction I turn it to. However, the same thing is happening with the volume wheel on my (equally ageing) A&norma SR15. So I'm wondering if that's some sort of Android issue.

No, that's simply an issue that can show up on any such mechanisms. One of my Panasonic cameras has the same issue, it's not about Android.

You can order replacement wheel mechanism from our partners at Linsoul:

Opening M6 is easier than opening pretty much all modern phones. Most of time just a decent suction cup is enough to open the back.

For rattling inside after fall, most likely candidate is some inner shielding.

If you can't find anybody local to do at least the basic check, the player can be sent to us for out-of-warranty repair.
So I got a good set of suction cups, popped the back open, and lo and behold as you suspected, the two shield plates had come loose. I reset them and closed the player back up again, which was actually the most difficult part of the whole operation, and now it's working again, almost good as new. No new parts needed, and probably cheaper than having a repair guy do it...

This is fascinating to read about. Are all the Shanling players this easy to take the back off of? Are any of them easy to replace the battery on?
It depends on your skills (Or pure bravery). The overall construction is similar to basic smartphones, so a good suction cup, prying tool, one or two precision screwdrivers and at most a heat gun and you can take it all apart. No complicated gluing for IPX6 rating, no special screws, no software that would be locking parts by SN.

Last smartphone I repaired was iPhone 3S, but I can quite confidently take apart most of our players.

For Android players, on all of them you can just pop out the rear panel and you now have access to the battery.
Mtouch players can differ a bit, depending on construction. For example on M0 Pro, you need to go in differently due to its uni-metal body construction.

Firmware Update released

Full notes and download link on website:

https://en.shanling.com/article-AndrUpdOct23.html

At this time OTA update is not available, please proceed with manual update.
I would like to thank Shanling for keep updating my beloved original M6.
After the update, my M6 sounds much more analog with sweeten treble. Previously the treble was a bit harsh to my ear with ISN H40.
Besides the DSD256 and ISO playing is fixed now.
It has been sticking to my ears the whole day lol.

Hi -- my Shanling M6 seems to have developed a glitch reading the music from my sdxc card. I use the USB audio player, but a couple of days ago this stopped displaying album art or even all the albums in the artist folder. I switched to PowerAmp, but this also seemed to struggle with reading and displaying the music, taking ages to put them up onscreen if it puts them all up at all. I downloaded another music player, but this continually tells me it's "scanning" and displays an incomplete list of artists, no artwork and nothing in the folders, even after an hour of scanning . I don't know what's going on! Any advice?
Thanks in advance....

Try connecting the microSD to a computer and have the PC perform the "error correction"... it did the same thing to me too... it's as if after a while some data becomes corrupted. Just today I purchased the dongle that comes closest to our beloved M6 with its AK chip and its magical "velvet sound" and that is the UA3 Shanling... I can't wait to hear if it's just like the M6 OG...

Thans, I will give it a go -- I forgot to say that I'd already tried a different microSD, to no avail.

Usually when you insert a microSD card into the PC, if it finds any errors it will report it to you itself... at that point you click on correct errors, otherwise right-click on the SD card icon and click on analyze/search for errors

Yes, sorry, I did try and delete that question, as I'd figured it out. "Properties/Tools" etc, but it said it didn't need fixing, I did it anyway and... no change. Poweramp will bring all the albums up but the artwork isn't always there or takes ages to load while USB still only brings up empty generic artwork with names but nothing behind them, and the new one (whatever it's called) can't even seem arsed to find any music at all.
