Geez, I hope I don't regret my recent purchase of one. Here's to hoping these are isolated incidents...

Hi, just got my Titan M5s yesterday.

After reading the earlier posts, manage to replicate the Ampli relay problems.

The details are as follow:
- Running balanced port
- FW: 2.1
So, everytime i pause tracks, and played it after 30secs of relay clicks, when i played again only the Left channel have sound and muting the Right one. I can eliminate the problem above, by turning on the Auto-Standby setting.

Luckily, when i rolled back to 2.0, the problem is non-existance.

But, there is one problem in BOTH FW. The Library Update keep stuck at No. 2190 out of 3200 songs (90ish GB) in my 128GB Sandisk card with ExFAT...

Please address problems above in the later FW @Shanling , thanks...

Hi,

As I'm a newbie in the audio world, my question may appear stupid but:

I am currently running a Sennheiser Momentum (circum-aural version) on a Pocophone, and while it's clearly not giving its best, I really love the surround option of the equalizer when I am outside, as I really get the sensation of a more "opened" presentation.

Question is: does the M5s' equalizer have this option, too? I didn't find it when I tried out the M0 as well as the M2s...

Thanks in advance for your answer ;-)

You won't regret it. I changed out an Ak120 for this. Shanling customer service and responsiveness is stellar. Just read this thread and the posts on their FB page. They are right there. Interacting, acknowledging and addressing what ever issues surface. The hardware is incredible, the UI (IMO) is the best out there and the sound is unbelievabe at this or any price. I sold an Ak120 to get this. I loved my Astell&Kern DAP for the sound but never liked the UI. When I first got the M5s I was disappointed. The sound was clean and detailed but somehow harsh.... Too forward in the mids and highs so i loaded it up and put it on continuous list play and came back after about 100 hours of burn in..... The sound opened right up and also warmed up and I'm super pleased with it. The battery life is incredible and the UI is fast, responsive, simple and intuitive. My only issue now is the EQ. When the sub bass and low bass frequencies are set above 1db (on some tracks only) it completely degrades & distorts the sound. I reported it I think in this forum and it was responded too almost immediately that they are aware and are working a better EQ implementation. A measure of a company is not how perfect they are out of the gate but how they respond when issues arise. The Shanling crew gets an A+ and 5 stars. They are gunning to become the preeminent producer of DAPs and audio gear and have proven they understand how important their responsiveness will in in taking them towards that goal. I can tell you I paid $900 for my previous player and never heard a peep from the AK team. Shanling is on it. This is their first higher end DAP and the reputation they develop with the M5s will in large part determine how much support the community gives them moving forward. This device is critical / pivotal in determining their future successes, so they are quite vested in supporting it and the customers who bought it. I say buy one with confidence.

Been using mine with my IEMs and sure there are a few bugs here and there but end user experience and sound production has been stellar. An office worker heard my M5s and he ended up getting one. Lol.

You want something like a full DSP, not an equalizer. I think the bts tech overlaps, but spacialization is way more complicated to implement (and processor-heavy) than a 10 band EQ.

Are you able to compare with other DAPs you know?

Shanling M5s takes the sound tuning of the Shanling M3s and then supersizes it. Better dynamics, wider deeper more detailed, blacker space, guys looking for great mids reproductions in instruments and vocals will absolutely love the M5s. Music has a rich dynamic rangy quality to it on the Shanling M5s. Treble to bass I don't find any of the sound on the M5s lacking in any way or form. My Sony ZX300 in comparison is not as dynamic sounding. Has good detail but when going from balanced to balanced I get more of a surround effect with the M5s due to the outstanding dynamic quality to the sound. ZX300 has a slightly warmer tilt to the sound and details is more smoother in quality vs the more upfront precise quality on the M5s. Both my Pono and DX90 are more neutral but is a tier below in SQ in my estimation.

The Pono does not sound as clean as the M5s and while SQ is outstanding for its time the M5s sounds more rangier and has the blacker back ground, slightly wider stage.. Against the old Fiio X5iii there is really no comparison. X5iii was a bit too warm and thick in sound production and the sound not nearly as clean or as dynamic sounding as the M5s. It sounded great for some genres while not so good for others due to the warm and thicker sound production. Not to mention has hiss on anything sensitive. My Pioneer XDP 30r I got recently as well and it has the most neutral sound production of all of my sources. While it has a nice wide stage for sound is lacking in depth and bass is a bit weak on the player which was surprising since Pioneer is known for their bass in everything they do. I like using my more colored earphones and headphones with the Pioneer due to the bit of lack in the low end.

M5s is my best sounding portable dap easily. I have been using it every day since I got it actually. I have yet to hear anything I own that sounds mediocre on the player. I think once Shanling throws out a few updated firmwares that fixes a few minor issues they will have a legit hit on their hands.

Oh thank God that Shanling provides the option to download past firmware. Just reverted back to 2.0, so I hope I won't encounter the dreaded no sound issue again.

So I just bought the Meze 99 Classics and the official Meze 2.5mm balanced cable that was on sale for $50, and both should arrive tomorrow. I just plug the balanced cable into the M5's 2.5mm balanced port and that's all there is to it, right? I'm sorry but I've never had balanced headphones before. The Meze will be my first! :smile_phones:

I upgraded to 2.1, experienced the volume lower after pausing, then reset to factory settings. I haven’t dealt with this issue since. It’s been about a week since the reset. I experienced it on both 2.0 and 2.1.

Yep spot on just plug in and enjoy :L3000:, got my eye on the Meze 99 Neo. Let me know if you reckon I could wear them at the gym. Currently use 1more overhead tripple driver (balanced) for the gym.
