hmm...in the shop near by, they were selling CX980, IE series, and the HD650 lol
they dont look bad actually!

i think i should go to a shop and compare. theres this one shop i know that lets you listen to many of the headphones, even some of the more expensive ones.

What do you think of HD650? is it just a cheaper and worse version of HD800? yeah i know they're for indoor use :)

From reviews that I've read, the HD650's sound character is very similar to the HD800's, though the HD800's highs and lows are more extended and it has a much bigger sound stage.

You really should go to try them out in person, what I like may not be what you want. Good luck.

i heard that SA5000 have unmatchable details :p
and it needs a less powerful amp does it?

ok. i listen to metal (dream theater, sonata arctica, nightwish) and jpop and gaga...which one is more suitable?

I own those and to my ears W5000 has superior details plus do not sound dry and cold as 10 year old jerky from the freezer. They are very technically capable cans but absolutely unengaging.

Really? I own the W5000s and they don't seem to sound extremely detailed.

That surprise me, a lot actually. They both are the most detailed phones in my collection. But when comparing the timbre I would give a huge nod to W5000, for details they do sound more resolving as well but it might not be as drastic and apparent as they sweeten the sound versus cut and dry, treble enhanced details on SA5000 but still to my ears they extract more out of the material than SA5000.
Is it source (Chord DAC64), amplification (Headamp GS-1), or something else that makes a difference in our W5000 perception, I really don't have an explanation.

Anyone here has anything to say about W1000x vs the SA5000?

Interested to know, in terms of transparency (feeling that your are in the real place without the headphone on you) and musicality/PRAT.

My IEM for comparison has the Shure SE530 as a warm and sweeter presentation, slightly more engaging and suit for longer listen, with the Ortofon EQ5 with a much better clarity and detail retrieval, but not as nice for longer use without needing a rest. Are the SA5000 more on the Ortofon side?

Neither of those headphones are particularly transparent - I think you should seriously consider the ATH-AD900x.

ATH headphones usually aren't transparent I think...

And I thought that my W3000anv had superior details over the W5000s, and that my UERM can match or even surpass the details of W5000s.

Sorry, don't own those. I was comparing them to SA5000 (topic of this thread) and on my setup (Chord DAC64, GS-1 with updated modules) W5000 have better resolution.

Metal sounds phenomenal on the harsher little brother of the SA5k, the SA3k. Only difference between the two models are the pads and some slight alterations to the frame. The drivers are the same. Its amazing treble really makes the guitars stand out.

I just got my SE-535 with 6n OFHC cable traded for a pair of recabled SA-5k ( 7N occ) ..

I find myself liking treble tilted phones the most.. the SE-535 was poor, smooth and refined in this regard.. I think the SA5k will solve my treble cravings

If the W5000 have better resolution than the SA5000, I think I'm very sad right now ):

I happen to own both of these cans and can say the following: the HD800 can handle far more bass and has a superior dynamic range. The SA5000 has a cleaner treble and needs far less energy to drive.
