that's exactly how I feel. I wanted a HD650 with a taste of HD800 instead keeping the same sound signature of the HD800 but with possibly more sibilance issues

A HD650 with a taste of HD800 seems impossible, since they're totally different in character.

We should have done a drop test on concrete along with my HD800s. See which one broke first.

Will it blend?

Rememeber though. HiFiman are made in China so I bet they are making an even greater profit per headphone than either Sennheiser or Audeze, and for Audeze your looking at small scale manufacture paying decent wages in North America. , Sennheiser I think make their phones in Germany or Ireland which also have living wage wage structures and much better human rights. All of that has to factor into ethical purchasing I think.

Been waiting a very long time for someone to publicly admit to drastically overpaying for headphones.   $1000 for an HD700 when its a step down from the Hd800, which itself is absolutely on par with the HE-500 in every way except sound stage size?  LOL!  what an awful deal.  Where is the extra $300 going?  Down the drain, thats where.

I really doubt that HiFiMan's production conditions are comparable to those of say the iPhone screen wipers.

LFF's post on flat FR got me thinking, and I decided to pull up the headroom graphs on the HD600's and HD800's.

Is this comparison accurate?  If so, why is there a common perception that the HD800's have more treble energy, and less deep bass, than HD600's?

(Bear in mind that fundamental frequencies of acoustic instruments, for just about anything other than a pipe organ, cap out at 4k hz or thereabouts.)

Don't forget transient response. And aren't those the two most important factors in any set of headphones anyway? A lot of people, including myself, aren't the biggest fan of the tonal balance of the HD-800, but that can be fixed with good equipment pairing and/or a simple EQ. In terms of technical performance, HD-800 is easily worth it's price.

How do you know? I am sure they employ at the same standards as any other employer in China, I can't see why they would differ really, they have to remain in flow of the way things are done there after all!

I don't know about the bass part.  I don't hear that from the 800 or 600 but regarding the treble its because the 800's peak is higher in frequency and comes up from a lower shelf making it sound more peaky and metallic.

Ummm, no.  I have HE-500 in the house right now too.
