Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

Yeah, this has been talked to death, but are you guys still preferring your 600's to 650's? Thoughts.

Asking this question on an HD600 appreciation thread ...... you already know the answer.

For me - it was easy.  HD650's sounded really good, but just too much bass, and not enough top end.  They were warm, enveloping, rich.  But the HD600's to me are more articulate, airier, and above all more natural sounding.  Especially the timbre.  Instruments sound real (especially violins, cellos etc).

I prefer the darker sound signature of the HD650 more - and the added bass. But it doesn't take away from the fact that I also love the HD600 as well. They both are amazing headphones - both could easily be my desert island headphones.

Cans come and go and, strangely, HD600 remains in production and keeps garnering praises and new fans.

I've had mine for like 15 years... only last year had to (finally) replace velours and headband pads. Same cable, issues free, the same great pair of headphones that can scale up and up as you through better sources and amps at it. A close friend indeed.

  HD600 + DACmini
what do you guys think? are there a better match for the price?

That's going to come down to personal preference.  It's a good pairing in my opinion.  Solid state sounds amp, the DAC is very resolving of details and dynamic to my ears.

HD600 need current.

The more the better driver control, especially around the [edit:] 100Hz area where the impedance swing makes, in this case, the whole difference between a good HD600 and an amazing HD600.

  HD600 need voltage.

It needs no more voltage than that required to drive the unit to the desired sound pressure level without clipping.

Are you aware of any headphone to which what you wrote doesn't apply?

I'm referring to this, to be clear, and let's take another classic can for comparison. I edited my previous post as per correct frequency area.

You typically will want to throw either more current or voltage to grab the can by it's hairy drivers. HD600 prefers more current, thank you.

Such a cocky response. Just because you're using text doesn't mean you shouldn't act a little more civil.

I wasn't trying to be cocky. I shared what I consider to be a relevant technical aspect when looking to pair an amp with those headphones. I apologize If I hurt your feelings. Have a nice day.

Stating the obvious is, by definition, redundant and may not be well understood since it adds nothing to a conversation.
