This weekend Visions Electronics in Canada is having a sale, and one can pick up a pair of HD598 for $150!

Just picked these up! I am absolutely blown away by the sound quality (these are my first good quality headphones, was using iPod earbuds before). Music feels so alive and keeps me in a locked trance lol. Using these combined with a Turtle Beach DSS2 with onboard sound on my PC (yes I know :frowning2: ) but they still surprisingly sound good, to me at least!

I was thinking of buying a new DAC/Amp, been hearing a lot of good things about FiiO E7. One question though, I have a Yamaha HTR-5890 A/V Receiver (http://www.cnet.com/products/yamaha-htr-5890/specs/) with the Silent Cinema input, would there be any point in getting a headphone amp or would my receiver be sufficient? It will mostly be used for gaming, movies, and music. Any advice would be much appreciated!

I'm having some trouble deciding which Amp to get for these.
I've had the phones for at least a year..

For the DAC, I'll go with the Schiit Modi2 Uber

I'm deciding between the
Schiit Magni2 Uber
Schiit Vali
and O2/ODAC (replacing the Modi)

Does anyone have any experience with these combos and the HD 598s?

Thanks.

Just got my new 598's from amazon and guess what? They did not include a 3.5 mm adapter in the box! I don't want to return the whole box and cans--it's a hassle, now that I've unboxed them all. Does anyone know where I can get an adapter to 3.5 mm for the 598? Alternatively, is there a cable that fits the 598 and terminates in 3.5 mm that is available from a 3rd-party maker/vendor? I'm desperate here and don't know where to look--many thanks!

I have it, I love it, and it makes me able to take my HD 598s on the move with my iPhone, thanks to its in-line iPod remote.

Ah--one last question. How many hours do folks think a new set of 598's need for a proper burn-in? I have no idea, being new to these cans. Want to do it right--hence the query.

Put them on and use them.

IF YOU BELIEVE in burn-in, the try to diversify the music you listen to when you first bought new headphones. That will open up all the frequencies - avoiding burning in one particular frequency, e.g listen exclusively to Metal will place too much emphasis on the lower ends. You can also use Classical or Jazz for burning-in, as these genres encompass quite a lot of instruments (hence more frequencies). You can also find burn-in tools online, but music is still best - it's natural.

Of course the debate of whether burn-in is real has gone on for too long. IME, Sennheisers HD558 and HD598 don't benefit from burn-in, but Grados and Beyerdynamics do (greatly, in fact).
