Guys, Got a Pair of K374 In-ears a couple months Back. Absolutely stunning, Not typically an AKG Signature. LOTS of Bass. Not Beats bass, but more than Ample. A little more Veiled sounding than the normal In your Face AKG Mid-Treble, deep soundstage, good frequency separation. REALLY FUN and at Sub $100 availability an absolute no-brainer. Try 'em out, before you spend $$$$ on some other earphones.
They got REALLY good after about 60 Hrs. on them.

    Love my Q701s!!!

Well, I feel dumb for asking a question about AKG 'phones, as an AKG owner, in an AKG thread. Won't happen again.

Thank you for the astute reply.

I can only speak for the older/cheaper Studios. I didn't think they were very close in detail but subjectively I actually preferred the sound with a lot of music. Though if given the option, I'd easily take a Sextett. It has a much more coherent sound with less grain.
    Shaffer likes this.

Hey, my K270 Playback is in pretty sad shape. It sounds really good, but the plastics are a bit distressed and I'm missing the AKG logo badge.
And i noticed that the K270 service doc isn't on the Harman site anymore.
Does anybody have parts for sale? Or, any direct knowledge of whether Frank can still get parts?

added a K290 to my collection, unfortunately without the switchbox so no quadraphonic sound for now...
still sounds interesting as a stereo phone though.

    I just bought a pair of K500's from ebay.de.

Is Thomann.de the only place to find K601 pads?

Replaced the Elastics on the Sextett with hair band things.
Also there's some radiator porn.

Yeah that's not really how you do it.
    You get something like these:
Obviously that's a pack of 50 and from amazon - get something similar (thin, black, no metal) from a local store.
And then actually replace the elastic. Yeah you'll need something like a tiny flathead screwdriver to pop the badges off, and a #1 philips to take the caps off, and a #2 to loose the headband from the cup so you can loop the new elastic through.

Oh, and i found this huge archive of AKG docs:

I am looking to buy the AKG K240 Studio, but I saw several review on Amazon say that they break easily. Can anyone confirm the durability of these cans?
  14. GREQ
Usually when people say "it breaks easily" or "it broke in 3 months", I usually question the manner in which the headphone was cared for.
The K240 Studio is based on a model that has proven it's ability to stand the test of time, so a modern review from someone who probably treats their gear like an old pair of socks isn't worth much.
    Yes, these are durable.
But like everything else in life, if you don't care for it properly (especially respectful cable management) it will break.
Very few headphone cables are designed to be rolled over by office chairs, snagged on door-handles, chewed on by pets and survive a nuclear explosion... but for some reason that doesn't stop people from writing stupid reviews. [IMG]

Thanks, I'll go forward with it then. Can't wait to join the AKG Team!
