I found one on the forums (don't have the patience to wait 16 weeks). It should be crossing the Atlantic about now :)

I'm in. Got both a V800 and Gungnir en route this week to try with my Bryston/HD800 rig. Should be fun!

That's perfect. I've been thinking about both of these as an option recently, as well as the concero dac.

Nice!  Looking forward to your thoughts on the V800.. it's on the slightly intimate side in terms of the presentation.. but, man.. it's so smooth and wonderfully resolving.

Yeah this is why the V800 intrigues me so much. I'm pretty into the super detailed yet smooth presentation. I feel my Havana is just lacking somewhere in terms of resolution. It has very good resolution and it's no slouch or anything like that, but I can sense I'm missing things sometimes. Especially in terms of intimacy. Maybe if I rolled a bit of tubes but the ones I tried, while some of them sound quite good it's missing that something special that I'm personally looking for. I've had the Havana for maybe a year now and it's been good to me but I'm feeling the need for a change lol.

Can I use my V800 as a preamp as well?

I use it with balanced cables to feed my V200 headphone amp.
Could I connect the RCA outs to my power amp in my main system simultaneously?

Anyone else here using it as a preamp in a hi-fi system?

Yes, you can use the Vio stack as preamp, I actually did use the V200 as the pre when I still had it. The chain was like V800>XLRs>V200>RCAs> ZD.

But internal jumper setting is required since the RCAs are set as output by default. See the jumper setting page in the manual, it should take not more than a few minutes to do so.

Ok thanks I see...so I would use the V200 as the preamp and not the V800.

So the RCA inputs [default] on the V200 can be reconfigured by internal jumpers to become outputs...would the V200 volume control act on the output signal then?

How did the V200 sound as a preamp?

ok, found the answer...the V200 RCAs configured as outputs are line outs...no volume control hence not suitable for my purposes unless I use the volume control on the V800?

I would suggest you set the volume on the V200 on max and use the volume control of the V800. You don't have to worry about loss in sound quality. I use the V800 as preamp for my Adam active speakers and it works like a charm!

The volume control on the V200 would not make any difference since the outputs on the rear of the V200 are line-outs and are not affected by the volume control.

I see... I am sorry, I probably misunderstood your situation!

Will that make a difference? The V800's volume knob has much smoother feeling as it feels like non-stepped attenuator. I used to set the V200 at max and use the V800's attenuator since it's digitally controlled, hence no cross-talk or whatever issue could occur. Unless you wanted to use the V200 as pre with different DAC then it's not suitable for that purpose.
