i don't think listening to movies require a great IEM - it's like listening to music from 128 kbps mp3 in a way

just my 2 cents

Just the other day, I watched Contagion, that features a pulsating score by Cliff Martinez. Whoa. Niiicce. Certain movies benefit. (Or the listener benefits from certain movies.)

Discontinued!  Why?  The Re-600 better be damn good to make this move.

As per Fang's words - RE400 is to set a reference standard for what audiophile level IEM should at least compare to, while RE600 will be what he would use for music listening personally.

Fang is kind of a purist when it comes to audio so hopefully RE600 will outshine all HifiMan's IEM so far.

someone should do a RE-400 / RE-272 comparison although i don't think 400 will be better than the 272 not for 40% of the price of 272...

and a RE-600 / RE-272 when the 600 comes out

btw , you can still find new re-272 for sale at the usual places....

RE400 is a very different beast compared to RE272. It is closer to RE262 and even RE1.

thanx to everyone who speaks in scientific terms here - i decided to eq the 272 based on some nice posts in here , and yeah this iem is a keeper - 1.5 year and no thoughts on selling it

as for upgrading , well i should move to the $400+ region , which is almost 2 times its price

thank you Mr Fang for the sonic gifts you bear to us all

Did anyone have any issues with the cord hardening after the splitter? And why did they go out of production, where they surpassed by another model?
I love these IEMs, and I would like to one day buy a spare pair as a backup.

1 - mine got hardened too  , but i have had my pair for almost 1.5 year , still no sound problems whatsoever

2 - maybe they didn't sell as much as other FOTM iems - a shame , since this is the favourite of the 5 iems i tried/bought these last 2.5 years

(re-zero , re-252 , re-262 , eq-5 , re-272)

3 - if you're thinking of buying a spare don't deay it too much , as these are discontinued , the pair sold at amazon also come with a 50$ discount off the regular price they were being sold

great iem , hifiman is one great iem company

I had a D7/P4 for the 272's.  Thought I was making a mistake selling this combo, I've commented using the word sublime before.  Wrong.  Using a concerto as amp, utterly wow.  Just wow, not sure what the magic is, maybe dedicated desktop components, better build quality, w/e it is there is increased resolution and depth.  If you want airy iem's with wonderful depth, re-272 and concerto, u can't go wrong.  Silent on both high and low gain.

Btw, I find that wearing headphones are annoying for long listening sessions and I've owned a the w4's and sm3 v1 and v2's.  Imo, re-272 - utterly transparent.  My own experience of course.  I didn't think iems could get this good, especially at such a price.
