If this one is still smoother up top after switching cables, is there any insane chance that you or someone could get those two specific models together and get to the bottom of this?

I wonder what the cables impedance is. That would definitely affect sound. It would be cool to compare them to some impedance adapters. There are a bunch on ebay for about $7 I think.

I've tried it with the 100 ohm and from the memory I liked what it did with the bass, having said that I need to test it again as my sonic memory is as bad as it gets.

Revised 1Plus2 & T1 Package in the house!

Awesome looking gear man!! Look forward to ongoing observations.

Sure, the Apex Glacier, which is a slightly warm, not-bright amp. Brighter amps would be worse. Listening at low volumes mostly eliminates the issue, which will mostly be a problem for those sensitive to treble spikes and those who listen for longer periods of time. My overall impression of the 1plus2 is quite positive, so overly focusing on this issue gives the wrong idea of my take on it.

Thanks Kunlun.

What about the source gear you were using?

Ok, there seem to be definite variations in sound. This pair is smoother up top, with more bass focus than the last one I heard. Not once have I been assaulted by a crappy recording, and it seems to have greater sub-bass impact than my ASG-2.

This might account for the variations in impressions between owners.

I'll do some listening from the T1 later, as well as some cable swapping.

Eke it's probably in part due to that new cable on the unit. Also factor in if the unit is new it will need to be ran in. Although I found the new gold cable to make the sound even more detail oriented (more neutral) with bass being leaned out and more controlled (not as bass heavy but better quality). Treble and mids also improved with mids coming more forward IMO. The sound staging is also bigger.

Eke, good journey mate, 1+2 and T1 can captivate you for a while with music pleasure. T1 is really very interesting because it helps nicely to blacken background and improve dynamic while having minimal interference in sound sig and its price is so right that is hard to beat.

Sorry, power outage last night from a surprise hurricane. Gotta love Louisiana.

Nope, it's not new. This unit is definitely more focused on the mids and bass. I don't hear the mids as recessed, the bass is quite full and extended, and the treble is oh so smooth even on my sibilance test tracks. The sound signature is closer to my ASG-2 than the first 1P2 I listened to, as there's no adjustment period needed for me to A/B anymore.

I also had a very perplexing experience last night. I'm pretty skeptical about cables and their effect on sound, but I decided to do some switching of cables last night between the 1P2 and G2...and I heard a noticeable difference. On the Westone cable the 1P2 sounded noticeably thicker in the lower mids, and the G2 lightened in that area using the translucent cable.

I can now hear differences between cables. I guess I'm an audiophile now. Sigh.

What cable is it you have now? There seem to be three cable out, über, gold/silver and silver.

I believe it's their silver/gold one.

I just A/B'ed cables again, and the difference is definitely there. The lower mids with the Westone cable sound bloated in comparison, and so does the bass.

What is happening to me?!

Don't feel bad Eke... the same happened to me at the NY Head-fi meet. I blame Dimitri from Musica Acoustics.

Have a friend come by and make it a blind test. Blindfolded (or the closed eyes honor system :D), have them put on a random cable then help you to insert into ears without touching the cable while they hold it up so that you can't feel it on your ears, aaaaand go! Rinse and repeat.

I'm a realist and wouldn't trust myself with something like this otherwise. I did it with my QuickStep the other day lol, both fun and frightening.

For science Eke, for science.
