Yeh, this is one of the funnest rock/pop albums I've heard in a long time and sounds even better on vinyl. I believe Bob Mersereau ("The Top 100 Canadian Albums" author) may have called it one of the greatest Canadian albums of all time. I would have to agree. It's definitely mine.

I'm only referring to what "Stereophile" considers budget, but I'm with you, and my wallet certainly doesn't consider it a budget rig either.

Really? All time? Better than anything by Rush, Guess Who?, The Band, The Tragically Hip, Steppenwolf, etc? I mean, Sloan are fun and all, but of all time?

*edit*

After reading my post from earlier, I realized I left out a key word: The following sentence should have read like this "I believe Bob Mersereau may have called it one of the greatest Canadian albums of all time". It has been corrected.

One of, yes.

I'm not saying Sloan are better, but what I am saying is that when it's all said and done, Sloan can hold their own with the Canadian royalty you mentioned in your post.

Sloan can hold their own with any band anywhere.

Alas, another great Canadian band that never really managed to crack the lucrative US market although I hear they are gods in Japan.

I've been meaning to start a thread on great "Power-Pop" bands. I've been plugged into Sloan's Greatest Hits package for the last week almost constantly and tunes like "Underwhelmed", "Money City Maniacs" and "All used up" surely qualify as greats alongside efforts from Power Pop greats like the Smithereens, the Jam or Mathew Sweet.

I recently scored a big black and ugly AV stand on wheels from a government sale for $20. It's really ugly but it's a huge score when one thinks it would cost $200 to get something this big and heavy shipped up.
It also works rather well so far.

I was getting a bit concerned that the headphone rig in the man-cave was taking over the work area so this keeps everything within arm's reach but allows me more work space at my main desk.

I have absolutely no experience with Grados. I'd love to hear a GS1000 or RS1 and it'll be a miracle if I ever get to hear a set of old Joe Grado Pro series cans. That said, Grados look horribly uncomfortable and dorky to my eyes.

Until recently, I had been moving away from Dynamics. The Melos has kept me interested and the recent addition of a pair of CD3Ks has upped the pleasure factor. It's a really sweet combination.
Now I just really need to find an excuse to travel to Ottawa or Montreal and pick up an 840C.
