If you haven't heard one you may be surprised at the sound. For the price it is a great starter tube amp, I just wish I could roll the tubes. Thanks jimp for posting the pic.

I wonder what is the difference between the LDII and LDII+. Mine ran hot.

The LDII used 1B2 or 1K2 driver tubes depending on the version, the LDII+ used EF92 driver tubes. Both used 4P1S power tubes.

You could do the same mods to a MKII as well. Same designed case, except it's gloss black.

Dont wanna rain on your parade, but doesnt seem like a good idea at all. The wood block the dissipation of heat, whether thats a lot or very little. Wearing a large fur pimp jacket in the hot summer won't be very good for the person wearing it either.

I know nothing about tubes. So what's the difference?

As in the original post I don't have the heat problem some have experienced. Niether the resistors or tranny get overly hot...a little warm yes. When I had it apart the large 2watt resistors looked to be a little worn but not bad. I probably should replace those anyway.

Surprising that those resistors are aging so fast-- Could be an underspec in the design plans. My old LD2++ cooked a few resistors too after about 1 year of normal use. These amps sound awesome but tend to heat up a little too much for my tastes...

The 2 watt resistors are pretty hardy and I've never heard of a case where they've failed, the discoloration is probably not normal but acceptable. The voltage regulators in the LDII+ are another story.

The dis-colorization (according to DavidZ) several years ago, is considered normal and shouldn't represent a "pending" failure. Mine were like that after only 3 months of use, but they haven't changed since that time, so I'm not too worried about it. I too might replace them one of these days, just because I can, I guess.

I have not checked them with a meter but they should be fine....as to the folks that were concerned with the higher insulating factor i have not experianced any problems with another 40 hours of use. So you all go for it and make your amp"pretty"
