one thing I will say about this place, is that you have unlimited access to opinions on the whole gamut of head related stuff. We have sponsors here, but not in the same way the other forum does.

this has been called the FOTM player as a bunch of folks have bought this new entry from Sony. The S639 is 16gb of goodness available in a bunch of colors and this silver & orange scheme pays homage to the incredible w800i mobile phone from a few years back.

Just got my latest portable rig up and running.
With my first amp.

This is a bestskin ever skinned ipod classic 120g with a LOD from Lil ´Knight
to an custom bestskin evered iBASSO T4 and then to my d-jays.

Have a pair of AKG k-171 studio aswell and this is my semi pocket setup:

With the amp, the 171´s really sound great and i can get the volume up
to a level that is rocking.
They have that neutral feel and the tight and dry bass.
Got them for $30 from headroom and they do sound good for that price.

The lod and the little plastic feet under the amp to gimme a nice air"flow"

After listening to the ad700 and the 171 i really think the d-jays are doing a good job. Specially in the punch. I will get a pair of shure 530´s for shure

I still have a DELL AXIM X5 - technically, it was my first DAP (ran MP3's off the 256MB SD card, using WMP9). And the sound is pretty mediocre.

Hi all

I'm a noob here and I've noticed the fat wires you use between your DAP and amp. I take it that it's to increase impedance and make the volume more managable. I'm going to be getting a Fiio E5 amp soon to pair with my Custom 1's and Zen stone plus. Where abouts in the UK could I find these fat wires (they're called LOD, am I right?) I've searched google for LOD cable, but TBH I'm not really sure what I'm searching for lol.

Thanks

BTW you guys have some AWESOME rigs!

no, most everyone uses those fancy-lookin docks because they have some "magical audio enhancements" which are really non-existent.

Yes, they up impedance, which can change the sound. Those docks usually cost 100 bucks and above, so i wouldnt waste your time. Thick wires dont bend easily, a thinner homemade or cheap dock would be much more manageable for portability.

now more pics
