Its not just the iem's. its still warm with the standard iem's. the more recent sony walkman phones have seen big improvements. ive owned plenty of walkman/normal se phones. w880, w900, w810, w890, w705, w905, w595, w580, w850 and now the w995. the w995 and w705 are definately the best sounding ones. both have the new clear audio/bass etc, but theres obviously been hardware changes. the w995 is slightly better than the w705 in terms of SQ. the rest of the walkman phones cant really compare imo. the w880 was just tinny, the w890 improved on that but not by much!

ive had a728/a808...

32gb iPhone 3GS, Senn IE7's, Griffin AirCurve dock. The 3GS sounds....FAN-BLOODY-TASTIC...

Cowon S9 and IE8. Had it for 2 days, love the IE8's, they remind me of a lighter HD650. I use the smal/medium foam tips (pictured). The cowon S9, I bought for the amazing sound quality described in reviews and the LED screen, and long battery life.
The other mp3 player I was looking at is the ipod touch. I doubt I could tell difference regarding SQ but at least this has longer battery life. It took me 15 mins to learn the controls, and I learn quickly just from guessing, but the controls are the weakest point of the S9. I would recommend the Touch over the S9 unless you need a longer battery life.
Ratings: Senn IE8: 8/10, over-priced. Cowon S9: 7/10. Picture taken with Nokia E71.
