ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |

Has anyone listened to the DP-X1 directly vs the Mojo using any IEMs and what were the differences?

Thinking of going either Mojo + iPhone 6 or the DP-X1 for my Solars/K10s but can't go for both right now.

I'm also 99% tidal and having to put my iPhone in airplane mode to remove interference is a bit annoying

You could just use your phone if you are going Bluetooth, that is why I sold my DP-X1 as I went Bluetooth and all of the internals are ignored. If you go Bluetooth it is the amp and the DAC inside the Bose speaker that do all the work, the Onkyo would just be a transport so no advantage over a phone for instance. I found the Bluetooth pretty good in terms of stability with the DP-X1, but the Bluetooth stability and range in my G3 is better.

You still have advantage of the pcm and dsd on the Onkyo to a phone

Not with Bluetooth you don't. You will only hear what the target Bluetooth device is capable of.

Since no one else responded I compiled my own comparison, though I could not find several spec.

Yes, this false rumor that the DP-X1 did not allow access to it's DAC architecture for third party apps has been proven false. The misunderstanding was that people assumed that apps that used software processing were able to do everything within the software domain, which was false. Such apps like Neutron will do some pre-processing within software, but the actual DA conversion must happen on the hardware DAC chip provided. So unless the DP-X1 provided a third DAC chip, which of course it doesn't, the hardware DAC, or DACs in balanced will be utilized the same as with the stock app.

Yes, I have. I prefer the X-1 with my creative E5 because I like bass.  I keep trying to like the mojo, but I always go back to the E5.  If you like bass, I wouldn't recommend the mojo.  If you like the "reference sound" the mojo is great.  I don't think the mojo/X1 combo sounds much better than the X1 unamped.  The Sabre chips are notorious for being on the treble sign of things, the mojo seems to emphasize that.  The E5 has a lot more bass and a great EQ, so it is a good combo with the X1.

I think the Mojo has more than enough bass, IF it was there in the orininal recording in the first place. I have no problems with Bass reproduction with the Mojo
then again I do not use EQ either

Each to their own I guess

I'd just say that the Mojo, being a DAC, can't really be affected by how another DAC (the Sabre in the X1) which isn't even utilized in the signal chain sounds like. :p

So I can say that I'm really liking this thing!!! My only issue is that when I download and or stream Tidal HIFI that when the song is playing (and it varies) the song will skip/pause for a second or less and if I rewind it to the same spot it wont do it so it has to do with the player or maybe my card.

Hey peeps, I am in the midst of looking for a balanced cable. But was wondering... After looking at mine. It seems to have both copper and silver in it. As such, how possible and easy is it to convert it into a 2.5mm balanced cable? I guess not as simple as changing the plug?
