ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |

Fiio has a better DAC, swappable AMP module and a larger customer base. It's not all doom for Fiio. It will be interesting to see these, go head to head.

Fiio X7 will be a refined DX100, whereas these this Onkyo is going to be a DX90 on steroids (UI/Build wise).

I haven't cared for Fiio voicing in general. It's not just about bits.

A lot of you guys are downgrading Fiio X7. But one thing I like is that they do well is firmware upgrades and features

Fiio's firmware is completely garbage compared to Android lollipop OS and quadcore snapdragon CPU.
If Fiio guys charge more than $300 for X7 when Pioneer XDP R100 is $499, you have to sue them immediately.

No matter what Fiio guys try with their OS, it won't beat the original Android 5 OS and snapdragon CPU with 10 hour battery life touch screen.
Not even AK devices can beat this.

You seem to know an awful lot about the sound quality of these two device, despite the fact that they are not released. I you prefer the Onkyo, that fine by me but please withhold comments about FiiO that you cannot motivate. It really doesn't add to the conversation. Also, I think most people here agree, FiiO-enthousiast or not, that they have rather democratic pricing compared to their rivals.

To me it looks like some people here just jump on the hype-train, where the latest is also the greatest. I planned on buying the X7, now I will probably wait until some comparisons are made, or until I know the price of the DP-X1. Both have pro's and con's, and specifications is only one part of the story.

Well put.

I would estimate that Head-Fi would shrink by 30-50% if people only talked about gear they had actually heard themselves!

Case in point, not only this thread, but also the potential Senn Orpheus successor, a thread which has almost 800 posts and 125,000 (!) views in the last 3 weeks, and the only thing released yet is a few pictures and some really bad marketing...

Cheers

I am in no way meaning to dampen your mood but honestly bashing well known audiophile DAP companies when you haven't heard either device yet is really immature.  Bashing AK and Fiio who have been in the DAP market for quite a while now and saying that a newcomer to the DAP market is instantly going to sound better and outscale them is just meh.  So what is this AK and Fiio announce new players no one bats an eye.  When Onkyo and Pioneer do it everyone loses their mind.

I'm just like completely at a loss for people instantly saying this device is going to be a hit.  With no one hearing as of yet how things are going to sound there is no point in hyping up this device.  Who cares what the specs are because ultimately until people listen to it there is no opinion to be had except that it looks great (which it does).

AK in my opinion has a great UI.  Fiio could use some work but the videos I saw of the X7 UI were impressive.  Until we see both of these in the states I am just going to continue saying that both players look sweet.

It is not discussing hardware that is an issue in itself, but reviewing hardware that one has not heard as that can cause issues. There is a reason it is against the rules ;)

The Onkyo and Pioneer look good on paper but so has many things over the years. With the distribution might of Gibson, both players should be demoable so am somewhat surprised to read some members have emotionally invested already...

Lotoo did it.

Here is a brief technical comparison I did between AK380 and Lotoo Paw Gold when the former came out:

THD+N (PO):              0.0008% vs 0.00058%
S/N:                              116dB vs 120dB
Dynamic Range:          unknown vs 121dB
Clock Jitter:                      30ps vs 5ps
PCM & DSD Support:    Exactly the same
Battery:                     3400mAh vs 6000mAh
Output Power:             unknown vs 500mW@32Ohm per channel

Without graphs these are useless numbers (S/N, DNR, etc.)

Has anyone heard this ESS amp before? Looks like it was announced in MWC-2014. I can only find some reference to being used in a smartphone - vivo X5 max.

I felt DX90's amp section, held back the gorgeous ESS DAC (to my ears).

You and I own the X5 and it is a terrible navigation nightmare IMO and I can say...my opinion..  because I own it and spent many hours themeing it. Made 4. There are no longer any Firmware updates beyond 2.5 which was when X5ii was released and the firmware is in-compatible between the 2...oh well .  I am not a FiiO enthusiast but I do own 3 items the 3rd of which I bought 2 weeks ago (e18). Bang for the buck for sure.
The X7 looks poor just in presentation and the 800x480 ips screen which is my interface with the device looks like it should which is not good. Google 800x480 ips screen then select images to see that. In 2016 that is not good enough and neither is one gig of  ram on a droid.  I'm pretty much a Red Book guy  but Hi-Res is like headroom on an amp....nice to know it's there even if I never hear it so visual presentation via screen in quality and size and speed are huge to me so I un-subbed from X7.
I'm pretty sure  positive will both play back to levels beyond the humans ear's ability to discern so for this user it's about the delivery. Soon as I saw the X7 size and screen I was out. No need to hear it if I don't like looking at it.  Personal choices.

wow your comment is super cancerous. Your bashing doesn't even have solid grounds.
