There, I’ve copied the files again and now it works great. Any idea of a portable amp that works well with this set up?

Hi guys, I love this forum a lot! Sorry for any writing mistake, I'm an Italian guy.
I have some questions about some mods for my iPod Video 5.5gen:

1. I was wondering if it is possible to put a brand new THIN metal back cover instead of the original "fat" one that comes with the 80gb version iPod, because I wanted to buy an iFlash adapter in order to remove the 80gb HDD so I think that, without the HDD, the inside of the iPod should be thinner and should be fit with the thin back metal cover.

2. I also wanna know if the thin back metal cover will fit with the original iPod 5.5 80gb battery, or I have to buy a thinner one, and if yes, which one (which battery) is good to fit into thin back metal cover?

3. I want to change the grey switch button with a black one: https://www.ebay.it/itm/121956863457
Is that good for my iPod model?

4. Here's links off ebay of the other things I wanna buy:
-iFlash adapter: https://www.ebay.it/itm/172537011681
-Thin back cover: https://www.ebay.it/itm/152581305858

Thanks!!

Sorry to ask a long question right after someone else, but I've been reading this thread on and off for over a year and I'm finally ready to upgrade my 5th gen 60gb iPod. Couple questions:

I want to buy a thin backplate, and I want to get a new black hold switch/headphone jack. Do I need to be concerned with buying one from iDemigods that says it's for a 30gb iPod? I'm not familiar with the difference, if there is some difference in the assembly compared to my factory 60gb. I seem to recall someone saying that would be the correct part if switching from a factory thick back to a thin one.

And of course, the big question of the battery. This looks just like the one in the battery guide page, assuming this would fit with an iflash quad and a thin back. Am I likely correct?

The only other thing: I want to replace the bottom (connector bezel?) with a black one to match everything - is this what I want or is this thing for a dock? I'm confused. Not sure why the picture includes two pieces either :/

thank you for all of the invaluable information to all who have contributed in this monster of a thread :)

The headphone jack/lock switch assembly in a 30gb Video & the later "thin" Classics is slightly different compared to that used in your 60gb Video (and other "thick" models e.g. 80gb Video). The profile is different so that it matches the curves of the metal back plate. So, buying a new hold switch will give a better look to your upgrade.

PommesMagnum recently reported that this battery works with an iFlash quad and thin back :

The bottom bezel thing looks right to me. It's the plastic bit where the USB cable attaches to the iPod. I would assume you will only receive one, though, despite the photo showing two.

1. It is possible to put a thin back on the 5.5 with iflash

2. The thin cover will not fit the original battery. You would need the battery for the 30gb 5.5. There are also some extended batteries that would fit the thin back with the quad iflash you are looking to buy. Tarkan has a battery guide on his website: https://www.iflash.xyz/3rd-party-extended-battery-guide/

3. I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure that switch button would work with the thin back

4. You can buy the iflash adapter directly from its maker at: https://www.iflash.xyz/store/iflash-quad/ If you prefer ebay, that listing should be the same item.
I'm not sure if back covers are universal. You may want to buy one made for the 5.5 if possible

Ok, thanks for your reply!
I successfully installed the front matte black panel like the 6/7gen iPod, in my 5.5 gen. Everything is fine, except for the click wheel that is a little bit "higher" than the faceplate. Why is that?

The scroll wheel plastic only or the scroll wheel with the circuit?
A 6/7 gen scroll weel is compatible with a 5.5 gen motherboard?? Thanks

You'll need your 5.5 gen wheel but you might need to swap the plastic shell for a Classic wheel shell. I'm sure someone has done it before. Search this thread for "classic video frame".

I just bought a scroll wheel with everything at once...

So I have to buy a new scroll wheel for 6/7 gen and swap the plastic shell?

I had a go at putting a Classic front onto a 5th gen frame. The wheel stands proud of the front only by a small amount. I could live with it but I'll try swapping the wheel shell with a Classic shell in the next day or so and report back. The shells are stuck down with a tacky glue. They can be removed but I have found that you need to sacrifice either the shell or the ribbon component. It's quite easy to damage them both during removal.

Did you have any problems fitting the 5th gen screen into the Classic front plate? I had to remove the gasket thing from the inside of the plate so the screen would fit. Perhaps the 5th gen screens are thicker than the Classic?

Yeah you right. At the end of the day that's good even if the scroll wheel is like one millimiter higher. Anyways let me know if the swapping went good or not, thanks.
And no, I didn't have any kind of problem fitting the screen into the new front plate. So, no, the 5th gen screen is not higher than the 6/7 gen, at least in my experience
