Something over 128. I'm sitting on 95 gb of media right now.
In that case you can use the Classic's 7th gen 160gb hard drive, it works great with your ipod (after replacing the ribbon cable too) That is pod cannot read the second platter on double platter driver like the 240gb one we use to upgrade the 5th and 7th gen iPod. So you should be good as long as you use a single platter drive.

If yu use the 7th gen drive you will need to put some foam to prevent the drive from moving inside the ipod, the 7th gen iPod drive is slimmer.

You will need a TOSHIBA MK1634GAL drive found on eBay for $66 and the Apple iPod Video 5/5.5 Gen HD Hard Drive Ribbon.

So nothing bigger than a 160? Also, any other simple mod recommendations once I get it open? Any better batteries or anything to stuff in there?

I have 256GB in my 7th gen (bought modded with a thicker enclosure on eBay from China) and 240GB SSD in my Whipmod (modded 5.5 gen).

Awesome!  Thanks Cmarti.  What would be your recommendation for upgrading it to over 160gb?  I'm thinking this should work:  http://www.amazon.com/256GB-RunCore-1-8-inch-Solid-State/dp/B00DZ416YW

Or is there a method that's just as efficient and cheaper?

Thanks, cmarti!  Would this be compatible for upgrade? 256GB-RunCore-1-8-inch-Solid-State (sorry, I cannot post links, Head-fi thinks I'm a spammer).  Or would you recommend something else to get it above 160gb?
