Has this been mentioned on here before? Don't remember noticing it. (I've no connection to whoever these people are, not shilling this, or particularly recommending it, honest! Just noticed someone selling an ipod with it on Ebay, and was intrigued by the custom back-plate as much as anything - I'm not actually interested in bluetooth myself, can't be bothered with wireless, but had thought for a while there was milage in more aftermarket mods for the ipod, including a better/larger housing, and thought this at least _looks_ pretty cool, aesthetically-speaking)

(What I _would_ find really useful would be a means of synching with USB-C speeds, but I presume that's beyond what a simple mod could do - that the above adds a USB-C port I presume doesn't actually change the speed of data transfer, just the plug type).
I think I've seen this mentioned on the iPod subreddit (r/ipod) before. As for changing the speeds of transfer, I don't think that's possible. The usb-c connector still runs USB 2.0 speeds. I'm not sure the hardware will even support the newer speeds without extreme mods.

It's kind of cool, but only works with one version, and not the version I'd prefer to use it with. While I have a classic ipod here, and managed to open it once to update the battery and put sd memory in, it's such a pita to do that I'll never do it again. BTW there's a fairly active ipod user/modding group on reddit, much more activity than you'll find here.

Hadnt seen this, but it looks pretty cool. $150 USD which isnt exactly cheap, but also isnt all that bad when you consider what that would get you if you were to buy a new mp3 player (which isnt all that much at that price point). And it includes a 2000mAh battery.

Im with you, i doubt the transfer speed is limited by the connector, so doing the soldering to add the sync options via USB-C probably wont increase data transfer, but it might be nice to try just to get away from the old 30 pin connectors.

Im intrigued. Looks like theyve got some other stuff too (like an SD card adapter that's not Tarkan's) so im gonna have to browse around their site a bit more.

Good find!

The data-transfer speed is the biggest limitation on the ipod design, that really gives away its age as 'legacy tech'. It now takes up to 36 hours for me to do a complete initial sync of my entire library!

I dont even know, i dont keep track of it! Im coming up on 40k tracks. It takes a while. Still use my rockbox'ed 6th gen in the garage most every day, altho i have a Fiio for in the truck or at work, because bluetooth.

Having had two "2000mah" batteries in modded ipods fail recently and need to be replaced, what I'd most like to see is some means of fitting a more commonly-available, more 'standard' battery type. At some point the custom ipod batteries will cease to be manufactured, I'm sure. And as rechargeables don't last forever in storage, there's no way of stockpiling the things.

In one case the damn battery cable fractured, rendering the battery useless - really don't think I'd feel confident trying to resolder such a thing - soldering and liPo batteries doesn't seem like a healthy combination. Would be nice if someone would manufacture some adapter that could connect the ipod-type ribbon cable to a more easily-available battery, and/or a custom back plate that would accommodate different battery styles.

It annoyed me back in the past, when electronic gadgets of all kinds shifted to use custom built-in rechargable batteries rather than the traditional user-replaceable types. Struck me as a stupid short-sighted choice even then.

Get yourself over to the Reddit iPod subs. Lots of lively talk there!

I'm kind of assuming by the time the demand for aftermarket batteries drops to near nothing, most iPods will have bitten the dust anyway. Another 10 years maybe? 20?
