Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!

Okay, so I'm a little late to the party... having just finished reading the previous 607 pages, I was ready to buy the K10 based purely on the positive reviews, customer service, and humor of Watagump. Then I discovered the Noble office is an hour from my house, so I took a drive up and met with Brannan to demo the unit. Listening through just my "lowly" iPhone and Spotify , it sounded fantastic, and that was with a lousy seal. I was sold. Brannan was nice enough to do impressions for me on the spot. Speaking of which, wow, impressions are easy! For years I've ruled out CIEMs because the impressions process seemed too "medical" and complicated. Boy was I wrong. It was so easy, and not uncomfortable in the slightest. I didn't drool on myself once.

Truth be told, the K10 is probably overkill for me. My previous IEM was the old Shure E500, which I loved until the cable broke. The K10 is obviously a huge leap up, but considering my lack of a better source, I probably won't be unlocking its full potential until I improve the audio chain later down the road. But knowing they're capable of more, I'm considering them a long-term investment.

I guess I just want to thank everyone here on this thread, especially those who have written reviews. Kudos to the early reviewers especially for putting their reputations on the line with such bold endorsements. And I really want to thank and compliment Noble (no bull) for being so upfront and available with your customers on this thread. It's super refreshing, and incredibly reassuring, for someone like me who is taking their first step into this new world. I considered buying customs from another company last year, but lost the nerve after reading about poor customer service and lack of communication. Congrats, Noble, on your success.

You and I are very similar. I had a Shure E500PTH before I found Brannan. I was lucky to find him a few years ago and am very proud to have purchased the first K10 they made for a paying customer. You will be very happy with the K10. Come to CanJam weekend after this if you can.

I hope no one minds me posting this here. Especially as I don't really know what I expect anyone to say.
Bit of a disaster really. A few days after ordering the K10 I have suddenly developed Tinnitus!
It's quite bad and is very noticeable when listening to my IEM's. Certain notes ring with the frequency of the Tinnitus.
I very nearly cancelled my order but hope that there is still value in listening to the finest on the planet!
I am going to see an ENT specialist to see if there is a cause but I have a bad feeling that I am stuck with this problem.
Must have done something bad in a previous life!

There are a lot of causes of tinnitus, even ear wax can be attributed to this. What can happen is the tinnitus has always exsisted, but a person is unaware of it, as ambient noise masks over the tinnitus. When the ear wax builds up enough to block out ambient noise, then the tinnitus becomes noticeable.

You could also have a slight hearing loss on one side due to the eustachean tube being blocked (cold, allergies etc) The blocked off tube creates negative pressure in the middle ear cavity, and the ear drum will no longer move as efficiently as it should. Once the blockage is clearde due to time (self limitiing) or the use of medications such as zyrtec, benadryl, afrin the negative pressure is released etc etc.

My point is, I wouldn't think "worse case scernereo" just yet. Go see your ENT (and hopefully one that has an audiologist on staff as well).

Cheers,

Dr. John   :)

So sorry to hear about this.  Definitely doing the right thing to see a specialist.  I have a non severe tinnitus and understand how annoying it can be!  I find myself preferring an environment with ambient noise as it offsets the high frequency buzzing that I have had 24/7 for years.  I have been fortunate enough to have almost psychologically blocked the noise to the point where I don't notice it so much in every day living.  I was concerned about using iems, but have discovered that they haven't made my tinnitus any worse, and better yet, the music overrides the buzz except for very quiet passages.  Hopefully you come to a positive resolution. Possibly the sudden onset has been caused by some sort of  blockage, as Dr. John has suggested.  Best of luck!

I've had tinnitus for over thirty years. It was the result of being in a war zone and listening to constant gun fire. Soldiers don't wear ear plugs. Mine comes and goes. Some days its there and some days its not. Just as others have said your brain learns to adjust and most of the time I can ignore it. I only find that it occasionally interferes with my music. I have been using headphones and more recently iem's and it has had no effect on the tinnitus. When its there the music takes over and I don't even notice it. No reason you cannot continue to enjoy your music. I've read some posts where people said you have to stop using your headphones or iem's if you have tinnitus. I'm living proof that is not true. Has not affected my hearing one bit in thirty years.

I have tinnitus and a hearing loss to the point of wearing hearing aids everyday. My cause is twofold; riding loud exhaust motorcycles without a helmet and attending loud rock concerts both without ear protection. Both conditions diagnosed 9 years ago.

I've been using IEMs for 24 years and only occasionally do I become aware of the hissing/white noise with them in, music playing. I do not blast the volume. I do wear protection at concerts now.

IMHO don't cancel and give the K-10s a shot.
