Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!

Should I go with the Noble 6 or the 5c's? I typically listen to chillwave and indie rock. I currently have the UE900's, but want a wider soundstage and more low end kick.

Hard to say really, I can say I prefer the 6 to the 5 design. The difference as has been said before, quality over quantity.

The 5 is a much like the Mustang 5.0 from the 90's era, a nasty beasty car...   no real finess but plenty of power. The 6 is like a BMW M3, finess and power.

The highs on the 6 are more present, but not siblant, and the lows of the 6 have a faster attack and release time. It uses a driver specifically designed for bass production for music right out of the box.

The 5 design uses a bass driver "barrowed" from a hearing aid, now this is not to say it is a "bad" driver, but it certainly wasnt designed for music. (That said, a lot of the drivers used in CIEM & IEMs are also hearing aid drivers, some of the most famous IEMs are built strictly from hearing aid drivers)

But any how the 5 bass production is from a large driver, and the larger the driver the slower the reaction time. It is just simple physics, the larger an object, the harder it is to place that object in motion, and the slower it is to stop that object as well .  (such as a train)

I'm not sure if I helped at all.....  good luck

Take care

That was really helpful thanks! After giving it some more thought, I am going with the Noble 6's.

What ear tips would be suitable to complement the noble universals?

So for rock and metal which of the universals would be more suitable? (apologies if this get's asked a lot).  I tend to listen to a lot of progressive stuff which mixes keyboards and guitars along with "real" instruments.

I also listen to a fair few audiobooks as well for good measure.

Thanks.

Put it this way, because the bass in the 5 is a bit more loose/slower it could potentially "smear" the sound.  Now in Rap/hip hop ect that may not be a bad thing, as the long drawn out "Hit" experience is replicated rather well with the 5 design, but if your music demands a cleaner sound the 6 would be a better choice.

That being said, that doesn't mean the 6 should not be used for hip/hop of dub step....  it does very well with that genre as well.

I know I didn't directly answer your question....  but just focus on what it is about music you like best, in order to make the choice for an IEM/Headphone etc.

Wizard, how would you compare Noble 6, 5S and K10? I am not sure the 5S sounds exactly like the Noble 5 so I ask. And these are the three models I am most interested in.

Simply put, Noble has 3 design groups, and the differ in essentially their housings

1) Custom Acrylic

2) Custom Silicone

3) IEM

All of them will test the same with a 2CC coupler, which pretty much tests the sound as it leaves the sound bore.  But insitu measurements may be different as the insertion depths will not be the same across all products, and also the reflections of the sound against the housing materials will be different as well.  The difference may or may not be percieved and that is subject of debate.

Wich type of houseing yields a better sound qualtiy? That is an individual subjective interpretation.   For me, I use IEMs, I don't even own a CIEM, (it is a life style choice as I like the convience of IEMs better)   Brannan on the other hand is exclusive to CIEMs, again a life style choice....

But I am married, have kids etc....  I have to be able to pull them out fast or have them just hover around my ears etc etc....  Branan is a groovy single guy.... with no cares in the world...........

Just ordered a Noble 4.  I toyed with the idea of the 5 and the 6 but I can't bring myself to spend that much on a universal.  I'd have gone with a custom but for the next 4 months I'm in a country where audiologists are rare and getting impressions is an iffy proposition.  I'll post my opinion (and possibly a review) after I've received the IEM and have had time for some critical listening..

Congratulations to Noble on really connecting with the community here; it's hard to resist the numerous positive reviews of my fellow enthusiasts.
