Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!

Alright guys, I need some help. I'm wondering if I may need a refit on my K10s. They are my first pair of customs, so I have nothing similar to compare them to. It sounds to me like the left earphone doesn't seal quite as well as the right. What I think I'm hearing is that music on the right side of my head seems more "present" compared to the left side, almost like there are less instruments on the left side of the soundstage. And then there's the bass. After new toy syndrome wore off, I was actually pretty disappointed with the bass presence, but this was coming straight out of my iPhone. It just sounded thin to me. I tried adding a Fiio Mont Blanc amp and that helped a great deal to improve the sound, especially with adding bass presence, but I'm still not sure I'm getting a full image from left to right. Just seems to lack that  "atmosphere" that I got from my 535s. The resolution is great, but I can't sense the space of the room, if that makes any sense. Still, I'm concerned that I'm imagining all this out of paranoia. Maybe I just need a better amp to get the atmosphere I'm looking for.

A couple of other things. When I insert the earphones, I feel more pressure on the right side. Not uncomfortable, but it just feels like it's plugging up the ear better. When I remove the right earphone, I can sorta feel the suction/seal breaking. Alternatively, the left side is more comfortable, but I don't get that feeling of the seal breaking when I remove it. I also notice that the left side sticks out farther from my ear, while the right side sits more flush. From a anatomical standpoint, I know my left canal is narrower than my right, so could the ear/canal shape being different account for the extra protrusion? I can post pictures if it would be relevant.

Sorry for the long post! Any help/advice would be appreciated. :beerchug:

First thing that springs to my mind is that perhaps you have the right side pushed in way too far? There shouldn't be any suction or seal formed. Customs 'sit' in the ear, they should be comfortable and unnoticeable after an hour or so.

In terms of bass, the deeper one inserts the IEMs the bass should increase to the detriment of other effects (at least in my layman experience), as you retract the headphone to the correct level of insertion you should find the soundstage opening up.

Having said this, I haven't yet experienced the K10's signature so your words have me mildly worried. Hopefully this is manual error rather than needing a refit!

I appreciate the feedback leo. I may have given the wrong impression with the feeling of the seal. It's very, very subtle, but more noticeable on the right side compared to the left. I'm not pushing them in too far, they're definitely resting on my ear as designed. I'm not sure how I could push them in too far, as the outer portion that sits beneath the rim of the ear would prevent this. They do feel like they "fit" perfectly. I just wonder if the left canal should be a little thicker... Thanks again

Also, try wearing the CIEMs with no music playing and see what you can hear. If you can clearly hear more from one ear than the other then there's either a fit or insertion problem.

Hopefully the good doctor can solve it with the pictures he requested so you can get on with enjoying your K10s.

I returned a pair of JH13's for this reason. "Channel imbalance". I'm fairly sure that it was paranoia on my part. Maybe play mono music and see how that sounds.

Or invert the right and left connectors.

Had a great time at AXPONA today...got to try the HE1000, SR-009, and Abyss, among other things. But definitely the highlight of my trip was meeting this awesome dude:

One thing I regret was I didn't tell him how awesome a job he does fielding all our inquiries and requests–the man's a professional! Thanks bangkokkid it was great meeting you!

Also, I really want the BTS. And a Prestiges. Boo adult responsibilities

Just out of curiosity - does anyone own the 3C's over here? Really tough to find any reviews on it. Thanks!

I just tried the Noble 4 unis - very nice sound, a bit punchier than my Rockets, but just as revealing.

Although I don't own the 3C, but I've auditioned it several times. They have a mid-bass hump that results in some strong and present lows. Thankfully, they are punchy with fast decay, and extension is pretty good, with some nice sub-bass rumble. The treble region is even more accentuated, with strident highs that have a lot of sparkle, but tend to be a little sibilant. Relative to the treble and bass, the mid-range is a little recessed, resulting in a slightly v-shaped, aggressive sound.

Overall, the 3C sounds pretty decent for EDM, where a strong, leading bassline and some spectacular highs are pertinent. Hope this helps.
