Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!

Plan backfired!

Must be quite a unique world we live in, where 1.6k for a earphone is considered under priced. haha.

Seriously though, its not my place to make the business decisions for noble, but 1.6k for a universal seems a little too steep. Just sayin.

You do realize there are 4 driver universal IEMs priced at 1K+

Want to join this thread cuz I'm interested in the K10 Uni, especially after finding out how small they are compared to the Roxanne.

Will all preorders be fulfilled on Nov. 1st or will there be delays because of too many orders? Just trying to figure out whether I should order now or wait till they're in stock regularly.

Any comparisons to the K10 and K3003?

Honestly I dont think its a bad price at all. Not everyone wants to get a custom fit IEM, so them being the same price gives you the option of getting either or, without having to think about paying an extra 300 dollars. The Roxanne is about a 400 dollar difference. And there is the resale value.

At this moment, if you order now, your order would be filled without delay. 48 hrs from now, I don't know if that will be the case.

Ordered my Noble N4 last week, will be replacing my Roxxane.

Lesson learned regarding CIEMs: don't do your earmolds in LA and expect them to fit well in Canada. Ear canal shape changes with temperature.

By that measure, should the K10U be USD1,082 as it has 10 drivers compared to the Roxanne's 12? What then is the value of a dynamic driver, or dynamic driver plus ba's? What if your earphone has titanium tube bores?

I think its pretty clear we are not paying for the number of driver's. Instead, we are paying for the sound and we are paying for art.

Now, here we have 2 identical pieces of art, one customized to my own personal taste, the other is the universal, with the former likely to have a significantly higher cost structure than the other. Unless the cost structure is the same, i just find it hard to justify paying the same amount for both.

Not everyone wants to get a custom, because most do not see the value the premium required to obtain a customized earphone and selling one.

You're statement is kind of like saying, wagyu beef and australian beef should be priced equally, so as to not confuse the buyer. They are of different quality and have different cost. The pricing should be adjusted accordingly.

Tbh, the only reason i can think of, where one would price the universal equal to the custom, is to encourage the purchase of the customs. Again, the pricing of Noble's products is entirely Dr Moulton's prerogative.

Anyway, ive said my part. I feel like i'm hijacking the thread and disrupting Noble's business, it is after all the buyer's decision whether he wishes to make the purchase or not.

Pricing of products is rarely based purely on a cost element, but also takes into account the value to the potential buyer. In this case both products offer some common values (including quality / performance) and some very different values whereas the beef example is (in theory) a premium versus lower standard example:

Custom K10

  1. Top level sound performance
  2. Personalised custom design
  3. Wizard one-off design (costs extra therefore differentiating from universal)
  4. Guaranteed perfect fit (not excluding the possibility of needing a refit in some cases)
  5. Better isolation
  6. Potentially better sound (esp. bass) due to better fit and isolation

Universal K10

  1. Top level sound performance
  2. Instant availability (once pre-orders fulfilled)
  3. No extra time / costs for ear impressions
  4. Guaranteed no refits
  5. Able to share with others
  6. Much higher re-sale value

As you can see - both earphones offer a great range of values to the potential buyer, but they are different values. I see it as more like having 2 Ferraris - one 2-seater and one 4-seater - priced at the same level. Both are awesome performance vehicles that perform basically the same, but the buyer who wants a 2-seater might be quite different to the buyer who wants a 4-seater.

There is the possibility that Noble make more profit on the universal than the custom (due to the extra time required for customisation), but that doesn't necessarily mean they should cost more as companies often choose different margin levels for different products depending on various factors (i.e. other products are about profit while certain niche products are about exposure, prestige, and reputation. Perhaps (as John eluded to) the price of the custom is a bargain and the universal option is spot on based on the performance offered.

There's also the possibility that the labor involved in putting all 10 drivers into the tiny universal shell is actually more labor than a custom. Depending on who is assembling the universals or customs, it may require a more skilled person to build the K10U.

I have no inside information, but anything is possible.

As Loquah alluded to, what if Noble had introduced the K10 Universal first and charged $1599. For that quality sound, is it worth $1599? (I think so, absolutely.) Then months later they introduced a custom version of the K10 and announced that the custom will be the same price as the universal. We would all be amazed that the custom is the same price and declare it to be a great bargain.

I'm just saying, there's lots of ways to look at it.

It is far more tedious to place/stuff/pack/cram all 10 drivers into such a compact housing, than a cavernous CIEM shell. Consider this, the K10U is actually smaller than a K10 demo CIEM!

In some respects girls watches are usually more expensive than their equivalent male counterpart.  I was told by a person in that industry the price difference is due to how compact female watches have to be made.  I don't know if that is really the truth of the matter, but I think it very well could be valid.

Regardless, it does take a lot of time building a K10U and yes, the skill sets requred are high as well.  (people with OCD are required)

Quick question.  Would you guys be willing to make any model to a prestige?.....
biggrin.gif

It may be done on a case by case bassis,  (PM us and persuade us) but as for right now, the Prestige is only offered with K10 internals.
