im thinking about Ak300 when its released but will it be a good enough source for kaiser 10?

Audio Performance

  1. Frequency Response
  2. Signal to Noise Ratio
  3. Crosstalk
  4. THD+N
  5. IMD SMPTE
  6. Output Impedance

  1. ±0.075dB (Condition: 20Hz~20kHz) Unbalance & Balance

    ±0.56dB (Condition: 10Hz~70kHz) Unbalance / ±0.55dB (Condition: 10Hz~70kHz) Balance
  2. 116dB @ 1kHz, Unbalance / 116dB @ 1kHz, Balance
  3. 130dB @ 1kHz, Unbalance / 130dB @ 1kHz, Balance
  4. 0.0008% @ 1kHz, Unbalance / 0.0007% @ 1kHz, Balance
  5. 0.0007% 800Hz 10kHz(4:1) Unbalance / 0.0006% 800Hz 10kHz(4:1) Balance
  6. Balanced out 2.5mm (1ohm) / PHONES 3.5mm (2ohm)

im guessing balanced is the way to go with it?

The best synergy I've found with my K10s in a DAP (better than even the AK240 and AK380) is the AK100ii, which the AK300 appears to be replacing in the AK lineup, so I see absolutely no reason why the AK300+K10 couldn't be a great source+iem matchup. You'll just have to test and decide (hint: purchase from a store or website with a great return policy and no restocking fees).

Balanced can kiss my butt. It is over rated snake oil sound wise, its a weaker connection due to the size, it also has terrible tolerance, so you can have issues with static, the cable grounding against the player. But hey, you may not have any issues, I use mine most of the time at work with my player in my pocket, leaning at funny angles etc. The only way you will know for sure, is to go balanced and test for yourself, I went back to 3.5mm TRS and now have zero issues.

Without being too gushing and fanboy. That's kind of how I feel. :)

Wise words Wata.
AK seem to have invented the term "unbalanced" which makes single ended sound inferior, when the opposite is often the case, depending on the design.

I had no problems driving my K10 with any of my DAPs, such as my DX50 or my AK100 Mk2. In fact, they sound absolutely wonderful with all of my players, even from my smartphones. Hence, I doubt you'll have any issues at all with an AK300.

Thanks for the replies, I will go with ak300

The only reason I asked about balanced is not because of the improvement claims it's because it says it output is 1ohm where as SE is 2ohm and I hear that a 10driver iem like Kaiser needs 1ohm or less.

K10U sounds very good straight from iPhone 6s, but it sounds amazing from Chord Mojo. Robert Watts (creator of Mojo) also doesn't believe in balanced as far as I know, he thinks SE is better.

I've read several people think the SE sounds better on the AK380/00. It may not be an improvement for you.

I just put in an order for the onkyo dp-X1 to use with the k10's. Anyone have any experience with this pairing or think it will be good?

I do plan to use and compare both balanced and SE with it.

Also as a side note: what is everyone's opinion on the basically non existence of class a amplification for portable setups. Does it matter?

John has 2 of them, not sure if he ever tried the balanced on it. I know he talked about trying it, but not sure if he ever actually tried it.
