Hi everyone I am looking for a new pair of headphones for mainly metal and some rock, I listen to mostly black/death metal.

I currently own a pair of DT990 600ohm and are using a Dacmagic and M-Stage amp. I really like these headphones for movies, games etc.. but when it comes to music, the highs are just too fatiguing for the stuff I listen to. I would like to find a set of cans that has a soundstage similar to these but with slightly tamer highs and a little more mid range. I was thinking of the DT880 600ohm or maybe the HD600..? My budget is around £300. Any help with be appreciated!

If you love them and just want that trade off from treble to mids, I'd definitely look into the DT880s, though bass is lessened as well.

Thanks for the suggestions, would the DT880 be good for more softer music also? stuff like Radiohead, Porcupine Tree, Godspeed You! Black Emperor etc..and I had a look at the T70 but they seem slightly out of my price range in the UK.

Use an EQ and tame the highs. Spend the excess money on something delicious to drink. Taming treble is quite easy, improving anythibg else is rather tough or impossible.

They both DT990, DT880 has extended highs and i will recommend the Ultrasone Pro2900, Sony MA900, Grado PS500, HD650 and Denon D5000.

Thanks guys I will tinker with the EQ in Foobar2k and see if that will help. If not I think I will keep the DT990 for movies and games and look into getting the HD600/650 as I feel the DT880 may also be too bright for my ears when listening to music.

Be aware that Foobar's built-in EQ will not help you so you better download Graphic Equalizer v 0.37 plug-in from components section of website
