It is a shame that the Atlas is being overshadowed by the Solaris hype train. I am sure it deserves the hype but the release came out fairly soon after the Atlas.

The solaris seems like it is targeted more at the audiophile crowd that hangs around these forums so I can definitely understand why its getting the hype. And I am sure it deserves it. Though for me, after reading some impressions, I just dont think I would enjoy it any more than my atlas, so my wallet is at least temporarily happy. And to be honest, other than some minor fit issues, and some issues with the chord poly (that are more related to the poly than the atlas), I am quite happy with the atlas and find them excellent. Like a vega, with added sparkle and detail. So, doesnt bother me that its not getting hype, I am still quetly enjoying them every day over here.

The atlas is a wonderful iem and definitely fills a different niche than Solaris, as someone lucky enough to have both. The Solaris is more of an all-arounder whereas the atlas has a more fun, bigger sound. The Solaris has more sparkle, better layering, and an airier presentation, but the atlas is warmer, bigger sounding, with more of a bass emphasis. The atlas is more forgiving and more fun, but also requires more burn in and commitment to a longer audition to fully appreciate. There’s also something more organic and cohesive about the atlas (perhaps the one driver). The atlas is less technical, but still very detailed. It’s funny, I auditioned the EE Legend X against the atlas and while legend x was superior on traditional technical merits (a bit more detailed, more sparkle, more clarity), I preferred the warm, cohesiveness, and forgiving yet still well detailed presentation of the atlas. Particularly listening to pop music, hip hope, dance, or or edm, which are often not really mastered all that spectacularly, I found myself more drawn to the forgiving, natural sound of the atlas.

i would argue that the Atlas has every bit of the detail required of an iem at it's price point. the reason that that's sometimes not patently obvious with some recordings is the the big, broad bass frequency response CA has tuned in to the Atlas. more specifically the upper bass region of, say, 100 - 200 Hz. there are some recordings where i'd like less of this range boost, but if you listen to something like a Diana Krall recording, you will see that the mids quality, timbre, detail befits a $1300 iem any day.

Atlas has great bass and vividity overall. It is a very engaging experience. The bass does outshines the other parts sometimes, especially when there is a boomy bass in the background. I feel the biggest issue that made me return it is the fit. It is just too big for my ear.

JVC spiral dot tips are the best I tried. I bought some from amazon and they have prime shipping and returning.

What's the listing please? Just get one hit when I type in jvc spiral dots. Also none listed on uk sites :(

Thanks

Try JVC Spiral Dot. It seems to work a little better, athough I know they used to have more listings.

Thanks. Typically the size I want is the only one that won't ship to uk!

I ordered Spiral Dots on eBay UK once. They ship from Japan and are a bit expensive. I think all sizes are available, check it out.

Yeah that's an option though I don't really tend to do ebay these day's. The price is another thing putting me off.

I got an Atlas and I think I like the included silver litz cable, but I really want it in a balanced 4.4mm termination without having to shell out redundant $$ for a brand new one.

Does anyone know of a person/place/service that can do a quality re-termination job on an existing cable? Or is this not so straightforward with cables of this type?

You could check in with @alpha421. He makes great cables that are reasonably priced as well as re-terminations.
