is your spdif input transformer coupled?Does that sound like the best approach or given the quality of my streamer is AES direct into the DAC best and the DI-20 being unnecessary, in my specific set of circumstances?

Isn't that too personal?is your spdif input transformer coupled?
Depends on how good your streamer but normally the di20 will improve sound. It is much about noise. The di20 should output a cleaner signal than your streamer.Damn, I've just realised that the DI-20 has a Spdif IN, so I can run my Aqua LinQ into it via my Oyaide FTVS-510 and output it via I2S!

Usb isolation is not perfect. I agree that just the dac through aes/ebu should work very well. I would use some sort of ac isolator on the streamer. Having a transformer coupled aes out would be good of course to avoid a ground loop. The r7 has such a transfo on its aes input so you are covered and i guess the other dacs do to, to verify.AES is always preferable to S/PDIF. I think it's worth trying that and after some months you could consider adding a DI-20/HE if you want to try IIS into the DAC.
DI-20HE is helpful if you want to run multiple inputs (coaxial S/PDIF, USB) or have noisy USB, but I think @FredA pointed out the USB on the new DACs is already isolated.
I think if the DAC output is AES/EBU as opposed to plain AES, that means it should be transformer-isolated. I'm not sure how careful the companies are with naming though.Usb isolation is not perfect. Yeah, it is aes/ebu in case of audio-gd. I was using aes as a short to save key strikes.I think if the DAC output is AES/EBU as opposed to plain AES, that means it should be transformer-isolated. I'm not sure how careful the companies are with naming though.

Try Os8 and NOS.So I've just set up a R7HE 2020 edition and I am a bit overwhelmed with the various settings.
What is considered the best settings for a 2020 unit ?
Does anyone use the SAA7220 +TDA1541A filter?
I'm also pleasantly surprised that I can get DSD64 through AES.
Agreed, keep it simple. Turn off phono simulation, etc. Really, there are not many settings.Try Os8 and NOS.
So to achieve that my settings read 1 (aes), R, N, 3?Try Os8 and NOS.
@FredA meant try those two separate settings, not at the same time.So to achieve that my settings read 1 (aes), R, N, 3?
Or should it read 1, R, 0, 8?
The manual is very poor!
