Which would you think would be the best headphones for me? Im looking for them to be open and good with folk, electronic, and rock. I also want them to be very comfy. And I will get a FiiO E10,

Heya,

As mentioned, the Hifiman HE-400. It's ideal for you. Pick up velour pads from Head-Direct (Hifiman's store) for $20 if it doesn't come with them (some come with leather pads). Instant comfort.

If that doesn't suit you taste wise, consider the Beyer DT880, Sennheiser HD600 and AKG Q701 (in that order) for something also very comfortable, open, and excellent for all your genres (well, all genres frankly).

The E10 will work fine with all of these headphones.

Very best,

Heya,

The HE-500 is a league above all the others mentioned; it's a high-end. You can get them for $500~550 used in the classifieds. Used to be a $900 headphone when it came out. So it's an in incredible deal to snag it at such a price. And well, well worth it.

You would want to generate at least 1 watt per channel into 38ohms, per Dr Fang, for the HE-500.

Very best,

Heya,

The Fiio E10 cannot generate that much power. The classifieds is the for-sale forum. Scroll down the forum list and look at the headphone for sale forum. Search HE-500 and modify it to sort by recent.

But let me ruffle a lot of golden ear feathers and say, it's perfectly fine to get a HE-500 and plug it into a Fiio E10. Get this: it will play loud, sound great, and work perfectly fine. It makes no sense at all, based on the paper-theory of audio. And to some with golden ears, they're going to say it's night and day on a $600+ amplifier. But I've plugged my HE-500 into things that output 6 watts and down to the E10 and frankly, the E10 sounds great with the HE-500. It's ridiculous. I know. Absolutely silly sounding to recommend such an entry product with a HE500. But instead of just copy & pasting what others say and think, I actually have all this stuff, and test it here at home, and the E10 made me really scratch my head when I plugged the HE500 into it... wondering, "How is this sounding so good? It can't be. It can't be fully dynamic with this little power." Yet it was so wonderful sounding.

In fact, recently I did a session with my HE-500 with a set of DAC/AMP combos to see if the power requirement is seriously real, and if you can truly tell the difference, night and day, between the different power output levels and if you really need to spend more than $65, or if a $900 setup is going to sound that much better than something inexpensive and "not audiophile high-end worthy" here on the forums. Why? Because I can and I like to test things that people say are "not possible." So basically I put my money where my mouth is. I've been meaning to post my thoughts on this manner in it's own thread, and will soon, but here's a sneak peak of what I'm talking about. And to cut to the chase, I can say firmly that you can drive your HE-500 with a Fiio E10 and it sounds great and you do not need more than that unless you simply have hundreds of dollars to burn.

It even powers fine and sounds wonderful from my Sansa Fuze + Fiio E11.
