Nice, used for $85 right? Since new ones go for $125.

I was thinking about the Q701 because they are the next step from AD700 in terms of sound stage, to hear footsteps and everything involving multiplayer fps, however, they are all good rounders too.

If I didn't do gaming, then indeed I will be choosing a true headphone amplifier...however I really need that CMSS3D from creative.

Ok, disregard exteran xfi.

Yeah Samson SR850 and Titanium HD for now...

So  during the time being, any recommendation for an amp to be connected between the sound card and the headphone?

Fiio E11 Portable headphone amplifier ($65), only $13 for two spare batteries (BL-5B) and a simple AC battery recharger.
SMSL TPA6120A2 ($50)
SMSL SAP-100 ($65)

Try plugging headphone straight into the Titanium HD's headphone jack, might as well see if you like the sound before spending more cash for an add-on headphone amplifier.
Or just buy the Asus Xonar Essence STX, no need for an add-on headphone amplifier.

Nice, well I got a used Asus Xonar Essence STX on hold for $130 shipped, good deal? Considering new it's for $160 shipped.

Correct.

The ST will even take an add on card i believe.

Both cards are very nice indeed.

Great headphone amp on both.

Just random thought... ST and STX are the same....difference is the STX is PCI-E and ST PCI right? Cause I can buy the ST for $120 hehe.

The ST is slightly better audio wise because of some "clock" feature, so go for the ST.

Hey it's been a long time!

However it's bad news since I bought the AD700 for $93 and the Titanium HD refurb for $99 however amazon didn't make the charge until 5-10 days later and their prices changed and they charged me for their new prices( $117 and $139 respectively... that's an extra $64! ) so I returned the items.

So, what should I do?

Right now I can think of this:

1) Superlux 681 + Titanium HD: $178

2) AD700 + X-fi Titanium refurb: $135

3) ???

My goal is to have the best gaming sound card + AKG Q701 (or if a better headphone comes out) when they drop to $200 + AMP to drive it full.
