I use an amp (the ALO RX-MK3-B+) (god I hate typing that) to drive mine out of my AK120II. But one time I listened to them directly out of the AK, and the sound was still pretty good. Better than I expected, actually. Sure, definitely better with the ALO, but I was again pleasantly surprised. 
 
That being said, I'm not sure how much juice the AK has compared to a computer/phone.

I love the alo...what did you not like about them ? I'm debating to sell my rx mk 3 even after I own a hugo.

I'm based in UK and searching for 10 foot long cable for my Alpha Prime (1/4 inch, NOT balanced). 
 
Can someone please point me to a good place to buy in UK, or, can anyone vouch for this product --

I never said I don't like the ALO. I like it very much. 
 
Although...I do get some severe static in one channel sometimes when adjusting the volume. I contacted ALO about it, and they said it's normal. I bought it used, so I can't complain, but that is certainly one annoying thing.

can always wait for the inevitable closed successor for the alpha prime... those I guess this hobby isn't one that really promotes patience heh :)
