i don't care about the lib update anymore i gave up
but JAMES i want u to know the features that i'd like to have in my x3 to make it more perfect (no. means priority)

NO.1: ID3 Tag lyrics.   lrc  files that x3 uses are so hard to get. I really really need this feature
(maybe ID3 Lyrics could pop up when double clicking back button)

NO.2: How come X3 only reads album arts less than 100kb jpg files. . i hope it could read more

NO.3: Since i have many songs it's hard to find it so how bout double clicking downwards makes one page ahead?

well you can forget about NO.2 or NO.3
BUT I RELLY NEED NO.1

1, We will see if we can support this in the future upgrading.

2, X3 already supports up to 1M jpg cover.

3, We will see how can we make X3 supports page up/down

Ok... so here it goes.

I've been using the X3 these past few weeks. Copied a few folders/files over to the internal SD card. Updated library manually. Everything was recognized and player worked flawlessly. Didn't experienced any freezes/hiccups or anything like that. Sound is very good and definitely an upgrade over my trusty Cowon C2. Using the line-out --> Schiit Magni --> Alpha Dogs/Mad Dogs and I love it.

So anyway, with my Cowon C2 I use a 64GB microSD formatted to FAT32. It recognizes everything, adds everything to its library and plays most of my tracks without problems. Decided to get another 64gb microSD for the X3 and filled it yesterday with all my tracks.

Problem: Manually updated library and... the only tracks recognized are the Chesky ones that came with the player and 3 other tracks (that are outside any folders) from the microSD card. If I browse folders I can SEE all of them and ACCESS them and PLAY them with NO problems but the tracks wont get added to they library.

So I have been reading about folder capacity, folder name limits, etc. I'm using the latest firmware. Are these things still an Issue? I know I have 50GB+ of music and that means that I have hundreds upon hundreds of folders and probably a weird hierarchy

(i.e.

Folder1
   Folder_a
   Folder_b
   Folder_c
   Folder_d
      Folder_da
      Folder_db
        Folder_dda
      Folder_dc
   Folder_e

etc.)

Is the Solution moving everything to the root folder? :frowning2:
Does having large folder names actually "kill" the "updating library" process?
What else impedes the X3 properly updating/creating its library?

Thanks.

Does the manual update take a long time, and then you have to reset the device? If so, you have probably reached a limit based on the number of tracks which you can work-around by adding a few hundred to the SD card at a time and doing a manual update between each tranche. If the update isn't crashing, but the tracks aren't appearing, your database is probably corrupted and you need to delete it and recreate from scratch. JamesFIIO created a thread with a how-to for this - I'll add a link in a moment if I find it before you....

I got my X3 a couple of weeks ago and am enjoying it immensely. Am making do with the 8gb storage that comes in-built! And seeing the issues in this forum I was reluctant to buy a 64gb memory card! But then I didn't want to end up with an X3 with 8gb storage! So I took the plunge and against my better judgement went in for 64gb card as against a sensible 32gb micro sd card. I've now spent the best part of 2 hours and am yet to format the msdc to fat32! Shall try once again and update the results!

It "seems" to finish updating. I say "seems" because I have the screen to time-out after 10 seconds and I'm not really looking at it. It takes a bit of time indeed because when I press any button, the "Updating Library" animation is still running, but I then leave it be. After it finishes, it goes back to the main menu once done but when I go to the "Play all" I only see the internal memory Chesky song and three other songs from my microSD.

I'll try to follow that at home, change the time-out of the screen to "On" (so I can see what's going on) and report back.

Thanks.

Which operating system are you using?
If on Windows, just use a third party free formatting app such as:

http://tokiwa.qee.jp/EN/Fat32Formatter/

http://www.verbatim.com/includes/binary_details.php3?show=1&id=840

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773735

etc.

Hopefully it should work.

OK, so I ordered the same Sandisk 64GB card that others in this thread have found to work well (Ultra microSDXC UHS-I). I formatted it to FAT32 successfully and proceeded to fill it with a variety, but largely 24bit FLAC files, so not a huge number. The X3 does not recognise the card and a reset does not help. Under browse it says File not playable and under info it reports availability as 0. However, when connected to USB with the card inserted it shows up correctly and all files are accessible. There are no filesystem errors on card or internal storage.
Is this something that is likely to be corrected in a forthcoming firmware update or does it indicate that my X3 is faulty?

Update - I have now reformatted the card, this time using SmartDisk_FAT32_tool (the second link in the previous post) and all appears well. Now to fill up again...

Maybe should add here for other's benefit - i was having the same ["card not read"] error woes on a pair of 64gb sandisk cards - even being as 1 was bundled with the fiio through amazon.

I had been using minitool partition wizard and it appeared to format to fat32, and the cards read and wrote data between the laptop and tower no problems but would not appear in the x3, nor in the fuzev1. i gave up trrying to make it work on the note2 and am driving a NTFS formatted 64GB card in there.

anyway, last saturday evening...i googled around a bit and finally came upon a thread...i could track it down if need be, or if asked...but the recommended formatting tool was guiformat (freeware, and clean by norton360). its small, only about 70KB and simple. formatted one of my three 64GB cards and dropped a single flac in the root folder. VOI LA! it read and in the fuze as well - double score!

been using the x3 flipping cards every other day, reading and writing new tracks and so far no problems.

ymmv of course but seems its not the cards or the players...might could be the software.

Yes, the moral of the story is to check that it works before you go loading all your albums on it!
It's interesting to note, that the simpler the formatting tool, the more chance of success. PM8 for example has all the bells and whistles and will do a great job on a 32MB card, but although it's 64GB Fat32 is fine for most devices, the X3 (and fusev1) do not want to know...

don't worry, the newest firmware which will be released in couple days will support format feature so it means you can use X3 to format any TF card if you have problem about the format
