I wish I would have read all these threads before exchanging my 3rd X3. This unit has a lot going for it mostly the great sound....However, all these problems with file management make the X3 a piece of junk.

Audiophiles like myself generally have a lot of music and go through a lot of effort to rip it (FLAC for Me) and organize it so they can find it.

If what I am reading here is correct, the issue seems to be that at present there seems to be a limited amount of folders that will be recognized by the external memory. My music folders are organized by genre, artist, album & actual music files. To me this seems to be simple and logical when you have over 2000 CDs ripped. Changing all this around would be very time consuming and really screw things up for my home music server.

It seems like the FIIO folks are aware of this issue but my god I hate being a beta tester without my prior knowledge.

I read quite a few X3 reviews by so called high paid professionals before I purchased and not one mentioned what I believe is a serious issue.

I should be receiving the 3rd unit (Thanks to Amazon's generous return policy) today and will install the latest firmware, try and load some of my music without reorganizing, jumping through technical hoops or trying elaborate fixes. All I really want to do is load up some 64GB cards and be off listening to some great quality music.

If this unit doesn't work right I'll just go back to using my $31 Sanza Clip player .... that may not sound as great .... but at least works as advertised...

Good luck all..

Please let us know your experience.

I found myself in the same situation, but I haven't bought the X3 yet, I have my credit card ready but this issues are a deal breaking for me.

Thanks

I definitely get it guys.
I still haven't copied my whole collection yet because of this issue... I don't think they will fix it either... They probably haven't tested this at all... Oh well... Looking into the Cowon D20 just because... (I usually use the C2... ;)).

For all people having issues with a 64 gb microsd..I had the same problem and i tried different softwareprograms, and none did work. Untill i found one..And the reason i added myself to this forum is because i want to share this with all the rest..
And the solution was for me the program SDFormatter. It will format everything on your microsd and it should be a easy case to update the fiio x3. For me i have updated and added music to X3, so no more problems.

Thanks diry72, I was looking at that tool yesterday and reading a little bit. Glad to hear someone found a way to make it work.

Can you give us more information on the format you use for the sdcard? how many folders/files do you have in it?

Cheers

Of course. I know the X3 requires SD memory to be set to Fat32.

Then please tell me how to optimise SDFormatter to format to Fat32 rather than exFat. I would be very interested.

Thank you.

Or should I say u.

the new firmware allow user to format the TF card by X3 itself.

I received my 3rd unit (thank you Amazon's easy return policy). I used the Fat32 SD card formatter on the FiiO website and downloaded and installed the latest firmware 2.05.... This is a little confusing because the earlier version 1.31 has a later date than version 2.05. So which is actually the newer version?

I still have exactly the same issue as the other two units. The number of folders/files loaded/recognized on an SD card appears to be limited that can be read by the X3.

I noticed that FiiO people said they will stop responding on this forum as they are receiving too many questions.....and will respond only to direct e-mail inquiries.... HUH?

Think "Hear no evil, See no evil, Speak no evil" !

I will wait a little while to see if they actually resolve this MAJOR issue as I do actually like the player...but as a $200 8GB FLAC player it's a little steep. Buy the Sansa 32GB clip player for $31.95 and save a lot of money and it works as advertised...there are other decent units as well....

I'll keep checking back.....

Thanks for the information,
Did you try the SD Format tool from the SD Association https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/ as diry72 recommended??

I just ordered my X3 anyway. So in two weeks I will be able to report my experience. I mainly have mp3's 320 kbps, but I have thousands of albums I plan to copy to the sdcard.

Cheers

Hello guys. I have been a little busy, but after "valis" last question to me i startet wondering what really did it for me. And i cant recall so much of what i did in sdformatter, but SdFormatter is the main reason to what it did work. But i think u have to use the combination of two programs, first a program like guiformat where u can format the disk to fat32, and change the cluster to 32. I dont know if a quick format is enough, but try it and afterwards use Sdformatter and full format(Erase). To bad i have imported music on my x3, else i would do a exfat format and tried again. I dont know if anyone have tried the program HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool, but it says it can create a fat32 volum larger than 32 gb.
