thanks a lot James for prompt answer
i went right away to purchase many studio masters from a small but great french company QOBUZ which enables purchasing but also streaming of FLAC files even with iPhone !!

Back from my office I connected my X3 to my car stereo and YOOOOO what  a sound even with ALAC files

i'am now dreaming about a bluetooth transmettor to avoid any cable when driving

I guess I am one of the first users of X3 in PARIS   France but this product is so good in sound treatment and handling is .......quite far from the Apple IOS but i will learn

thanks to you i saved 500 euros compared to ASTELL &Kern players !!!

Merci beaucoup

so far the bluetooth technical can solve the sound quality issues, anyway, hope our X3 can help you enjoy the music and forget the gears.

James - I just purchased my X3.  Love the sound quality & am looking forward to making it my go-to DAP (I have a Sansa Clip+ and a Cowon J3).  I tried formatting a 64GB SD card using FAT32 and had no luck getting the player to recognize it.

4 questions:

1)  I have not updated the firmware; does the latest firmware update address the problem (I think my unit came with v1.25);
2)  The X3 does not recognize the card - the Cowon J3 recognized approx. 32GB - the Sansa Clip+ recognizes 60+ Gb (It's a Sandisk card - go figure!!)  Why would that be?
3)  Do you recommend a specific SD-FAT32 formatter?
4)  If I can't get it to work, what can I do?

Many thanks!

1, the newest version is 1.31, please update to the newest version first.

2, I don't know what happen but the download address should be OK , pleas try it again.

3, please format the 64g TF card to FAT32 first.

4, you can google the SD format tool cause I am not sure what OS you are using.

5, seems not a quality issues about the hardware so should be fixed by firmware update.

I recently purchased the X3 along with SanDisk Ultra 64 GB MicroSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card.  It did not recognize the SD card when I put it in, nor did the computer when I plugged the player in.  I reformatted the card to FAT32 using guiformat.

I then used the card to successfully upgrade the firmware to 1.31.  Plugging the X3 into the computer I can see the SD card as well as the internal memory, add files and remove them.

The X3 does not recognize the card in the System Settings nor any music placed on the card.  If I try to browse files it gives the error "Playback Failed, File Not Found."  It will then give the same error for the internal memory.  I have to remove the card and restart the player before I can successfully browse files again.

Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Do you have another TF card and try it again so we can judge what cause the problem, x3 or the TF card ?

There is a caution on the SanDisk cards, btw:

- Reformat into file system other than exFAT may cause instability

- Only compatible with SDXC enabled device in exFAT format per SD Standard

That said, my X3 seems to work fine with the 64GB card formatted to fat32.

I have resolved my issue.  Using guiformat, only certain allocation sizes appear to be acceptable to the player software.  The default of 32768 appears to work fine, the 65536 will not work.  I have not tested the others.  Why the system will recognize it but the player software won't is interesting but otherwise an easy fix.  Hope this helps other people.

Hmmmm ... doesn't seem to work for me :frowning2:

In fact, at first, things worked quite well until a freeze while playing music on the sd card.

Since, I've reset the player, deleted "usrlocal_media.db", formatted with "guiformat", compiled a new set of music files, etc.

Now the player either freezes while updating the music library or when trying to access the SD card. This seems to be the same with a 32gb and 64gb card.

Just trying with a 4gb card ...

James! plz help my x3's firmware is 1.31
which means unlimited folder
but the lib update doesn't seem to work
what could be the problem?
ps. i have 871folders and 3368 files

not sure whether the folder is too long, there are 256 letter limited for the total patch, for example, the total letters of below patch is 22.

c:\\music\rock\album1

so can you take a shoot about the folder structure and post in here, it will be better to check it on your PC

Well, now, although I can't browse files or update the library on my 64 gb MicroSD card, if I go to random play the X3 plays all tracks.

So atm, although this is an irritation, the X3 does what I actually bought it for; randomly playing a lot of music randomly downloaded from my NAS via Mediamonkey, and sounding really good with my Mont Blanc/Shures.

Of course, I'm looking forward to future firmware upgrades which will increase my playback options.
