Clamp is so light and the leather headband basically makes them feel like "air" on your head... so no, I don't find them heavy either...

(or maybe are necks are indeed awesome! :p)

Does your leather strap touch the rubberized headband when they are on your head? I'm wondering if my comfort strap is too long/short or something. I'm really trying my hardest not to send these back

The clamp is definitely light, which is really nice, my ears aren't getting nearly as warm as with my M50s.

So what's the word on the version to go for?

The version with the Dog Pads or without?

Got the Mad Dogs in the mail last week. Been auditioning them since then. I absolutely love their sound, but they seem quite heavy. After wearing these for about 20-30min my neck starts to feel strained. I had M50s before these and that never happend (though these are heavier). Any suggestions? Am I wearing these wrong (not really sure how I could be wearing these "wrong")? Is everyone else's neck just more awesome than mine? I'm going to give them another day or so, but I might have to send them back because of this. Kinda upset, I'm loving the sound on these.

They are on the heavier side which is part of why I've hesitated to recommend them for portable use (heavy + mild clamping force = likely to fall to the ground).  The weight of headphones does seem to bother some more than others.  With the exception of the Beyer Tesla series and the Sennheiser HD800's, most of the really high-end headphones seem to be fairly heavy.  I guess it's possible that adjusting the clamping force on your Mad Dogs might lessen the perceived weight.

Good Luck.

There is ~ 1cm of distance between the leather comfort strap and the rubberized Fostex headband.  That could also be an issue.

Go with the Dog Pads.  I have a version with the Shure 840 pads, but after wearing and listening to the Dog Pad version at CanJam, I ordered a second pair with the Dog Pads to use at home.

I'd like to call out Dan and his amazing customer service. Even knowing I might return the headphones he has been nothing short of spectacular to deal with. He has given suggestions every step of the way (before purchase, and after), even going so far as to offer to ship me a shorter leather strap if mine was too long (it isn't thought).

Just wanted to let everyone know my experience so far, in case anyone was hesitant.

Man, has this thread grown. Happy to see the MD and Dan get the attention they deserve. I had (still have, just not used very much) the D5000 and getting the MD cured my upgradeitis. I think that speaks for the quality of these headphones. There are plenty of impressions with most of which I agree, but every now and then someone brings up the "light bass" issue, which... is not an issue. At all. Coming from the D5000 the most prominent change is the lessened emphasis on the highs. I guess you notice differences in bass, too, but I never really was a hardcore basshead and the MD has enough bass to satisfy me even for some kinds of electronic music. It's very linear and fast and that's mostly what matters to me.

My MD have the Shure pads. YMMV.

When I was at the store auditioning both the MD with shure pads and dog pads, I honestly had to sat down and think really long before finally made my purchase. I was one of those people who thought the shure one was bass light. After comparing the two, they are of two different sonic characters. I like th dog pads bass response, on the other hand I also love the midrange and the highrange character of the shure ones. I did understand that it's a give and take situation, so I went for the dog pads because I think they're more comfortable. :p I also thought getting a pair of shure pads for replacement is much easier here than to import the dog pads. Haha! But I have to say that I'm happy with my purchase.

How were you auditioning them at a store? Why don't the States have something similar for people...

Where I live, fortunately there are 4 headphone stores/specialists. Their products ranged from very affordable mass consumer stuff to high end systems (like the stax). So all I need to do is ask for a free audition. They don't mind if we eventually didn't buy anything. Because impressions lead to word of mouth marketing; free advertisement. :p

Because we have Best Buy

That and you guys have stores with return policies for unsatisfied buyers. We, unfortunately, do not have that luxury.

I was saying that's why we're so far behind :frowning2:

Oh, you were.

I was more-so wondering what kind of store he was auditioning them at. I'd imagine some sort of audio shop, then again, I really have no idea
what stores are like in Indonesia.

Ah, I see. Thanks for letting us know. Even though stores here have return
policies, it's really sad to see so few audio shops around.
