Ah I see. Thanks for the explanation Dan. No issues, just trying to understand how it works relative to my gear. Will high gain at lower volumes sound better than max volume at low gain?

That can be gear dependent.  Experiment...

Anybody can kindly explain why the Mad Dogs can receive MAX volume on a NFB-10SE? Like volume 48, while still sounding normal. Other headphones can barely go past 20.
--
Edit: Sorry. Depended on the software/source. Listened to them on different occasions. Though the Mad Dogs can certainly receive more power without being glaringly loud.

I put my O2/ODAC at max volume on high gain, while with Sen HD650 I only use 30-40% volume on low gain.

I had a poor experience with a very hyped IEM under $100 from one of these manufacturers.  It had no bass below 80Hz, and no highs about about 8K.  I have to wonder, sometimes, what people are referencing when they claim something sounds awesome and start hyping it.  It doesn't seem to be live music!

A fellow I know who owns a very high end mobile recording studio and has given me feedback on voicing the phones told me a story that I think will crack you all up.  He went into recording instead of selling high-end audio gear after a customer who had just purchased a state-of-the-art high end system returned it because the cymbals sounded like they were metal.

Well we don't want metal cymbals to sound like metal do we!

Also I will be auditioning your 'mad dog' this saturday! I wonder how it will sound through my hisoundaudio rocoo p, it has 80mw/channel, will this be enough? :)

I have used them with my Hisound Studio V and quite frankly, it CAN drive them but NOT at their best (i.e. get the volume up to 27 to 30 and it starts to distort...

Yeah the NFB-10 has like 6.watts @ 50ohms. Plenty of power.

MrSpeakers, yeah YOU DID!

He updated his website and added the following comments on Main:

No more upgrades for existing un-moded T50 users?  Damn... I've had my brand new one's sitting in a box waiting to be shipped for the Rabies MadDog upgrade.

Yes, this is the complete upgrade if you have an existing set of Fostex (un-modified).

If you are looking for a turnkey solution from me then this is the right unit:

Basically you send your T50RPs unmodded to Dan and he performs his magic.

What is the plug that goes into the T50RP's? 1/8? Not the plug that you plug into your PC/amp. But the plug that goes into the headphone.

It's 1/8" (3.5mm0. It requires a 45 degree or a right angle cable with a narrow terminator that has at least 4mm of clearance below the bend in the jack.

hmm, I wonder if somebody would make a nice cable do me like that. Seems a bit tough though.
