If you like the overall tonality, build quality, etc. of the D7000... but want more bass... go for the D5000. Gobs of bass there.

Those are all good but the EF5, Zeus, Mapletree, Little Dot MK VIII SE or Little Dot MK VI+ are not there

My amp is ranked #5 =)

I personally really enjoy the Beyer DT990/600ohm in that price range. For cheaper DACs look at the Nuforce uDac/uDac2 or the LD DacI, for more expensive ones the PS Audio Digital Link III or the Benchmark Dac1.

For an amp, do you know if you want hybrid, tube or solid state? All offer a different kind of sound signature. I borrowed D5000 for a week and had a very brief listen to it comparing my MAD Ear+ HD and my M^3. I preferred the M^3 actually. I am not a basshead, so this is why. The MAD Ear+ HD (tube amp...) made the D5000 sound warmer and thus bassier. I felt that clarity was also reduced. It is not really a matter of which is best, but which you prefer.

I suggest looking into Audio-GD's products. Kingwa makes fantastic equipment which has huge bang for buck performance and they are aso built rather well.

Do you want to stay single ended or go balanced?

$800 for an amp / DAC combo? Get the HeadRoom Desktop Amp / DAC. I haven't looked back. Here's my review.

You want more bass than a D7000? Upgrade your amp first and then think about different headphones. You have an incredible pair already.

I would also recommend the lisa3. Very powerful little amp with variable bass boost that powered my denons great. I would stay away from any tube amps in that range because I havent found one in that price range that really does the denons justice.

I havent heard the Little Dot MK VIII SE. It produces a lot of power into a 600 0hm load (2w), but that doesnt mean it can produce the amps needed to drive a 25ohm can. The specs of the Little Dot MK VIII SE says 32ohm to 600 ohm making me wonder about its ability to drive a 25ohm load. You would have to ask someone who has actually tried it with the d7000 and has a perspective of having heard the d7000 on other amps as well to make sure they know what good sound from the d7000 is.

I enjoy my Audio GD DAC19/C2 amp combo very much. It is a tiny bit of a stretch for your budget, but is manageable if it's something you're interested in. I've always wanted to try out a tube amp with my D7000....maybe in the near future.
