Adding 75 ohms to the stock 60 ohms will make the PP more difficult to drive, but will also shift the emphasis from bass to the higher frequencies. Instrumental and vocal details will be increased while bass impact is slightly reduced resulting ln an overall more neutral SQ. Without the adapter, SQ is more "Senn-ish" while with the 75 ohm adapter, it is more "Grado-ish".

When I mod the PP, I only add a 47 ohm resistor to each driver resulting in an impedance of about 110 total ohms. This seems to be a good all-around impedance setting and will still allow the PP to be used with most cellphones without needing an external amp.
Thanks for this ohm adapter post.

Retrospekt headband can fit into the square hole on kph30i ear cups. The plastic stock headband will eventually break, it seems to become brittle with age.

discontinued- seems like it was a bit cheaper & had a headband w/o comfortzone (the post replied to above was from 2005)

Thanks for that link. So cool.

I love the Portapro logo in this. Classic old school.

Keep your friends into Koss so we don't miss models like this in the future.

Is there a good guide for modding mmcx onto Koss Porta Pro? I'd like to get my Porta Pro onto my Hart Audio cable system. I've never soldered but figured I can practice on smaller projects then try this. I just need a guide that tells me what I need to buy for the Porta Pros!
I would just go on youtube. There are also clubs of people that do free soldering/repairs if you are lucky to have one in your city.

What's special about a Hart Audio Cable?

I really like the Hart Cables for desktop use. They are light, don't tangle, don't pull your headphones down due to heavy Y splitters, zero microphonics. Overall just a really great cable to use for day to day.

My recent jam is the 25th Anniversary Porta Pros with Yaxi pads driven by the 3Max… Surprisingly even on high gain the volume dial had to go all the way to 12 o’clock to drive these~

Dynamics and soundstage are good. But there’s a distinct lack of imaging and depth. Still, rather amazing for a pair of headphones i bought 10+ years ago for the iPod.

Anything different about the 25th Anniversary ones?

I remember seeing an article on Innerfidelity about it. Comes in a special box and includes a collectors coin. The headphone itself has unique branding.

Personally, I like how the Drop version looks the most.

Haha I have no idea where I threw the coin... The bag's also all tattered up and ditched. I don't like how the new ones have a mic on the cable. Apart from the colour, I don't think there are any audio differences that I know of? They are holding up really well though. Just changed to the yellow Yaxi pads. The fabric protected cables are still good as new.
