Xin at fixup.net used to sell them, but no longer... I don't know any inexpensive sources anymore (just the Etymotic ER4P->S adapter). Probably best to make your own these days, which wouldn't be too hard. Or maybe ask one of the well known DIYers like MisterX to do it...

First post here but what the hell =)

I spent a whole YEAR reading reviews on the portas and finally bit the bullet. Previously I owned teh Technics RPF200 cans and was very pleased with them for 2 years until the earpads "eroded" away LOL - Also the left diaphram started to vibrate on bass notes so I thought it would be an ideal time to upgrade. The Koss cost me £37 which was expensive for me as i only workes part time and I'd had Seinheissers before which failed to impress me more than the technics.

The Koss definately sounded weird first, it put into perspective how flat the technics were m I wa ssuddenly transported into an era of music and movies and games I had not ventured previously. Imagine you're a small boy in a candy store filled with your favourite candy, that wa sme and music was my candy!

I'm driving mine with a Lenwood KRV receiver from my pc's santa cruz soundcard and every aspect is awesome, it really makes bad sound recordings stand out, I actually rip my cd's to flac now because of the lacking aura of mp3.

Everyone that has heard these too has been wowed.

I sometimes think about buying the Grado SR80 but read the reviews which constantly point out the comfort after an hour of usage I could not live with that! the koss are non existant on my head when worn and im used to that feel, but then I just plant them on again and smile

I thought id resurrect this thread to show my love and appreciation to the portapro and other great koss products that use the same driver or a variation of it. I used to think the PP looked ugly, but now i rock them on the streets of toronto and NYC whenever i can.

I've been happy with my Portapro2, KTXpro1, KSC50 for awhile now hooked up to a PA2V2 amp and just ordered a KSC75 off amazon cuz you just cant hear enough praise about them on this forum.

Cheers to the best value Koss provides.

Thumbs up for the little wonder PortaPro.

Yesterday I was listening to the Sixth of Tchaikovsky through PortaPro driven by the Rudistor NX-01. Powerful, vivid, spectrum-complete orchestra. Great sound for the price.

Anyone know where I can still pick up a pair at a B&M store? Preferably not at retail price but even at that price they are good phones. Near bay area would be best, thanks!

I'm sure high end amplification helps... pretty current hungry headphone at 60 ohms. Strange how a cheaper headphone designed for use out of portable sources might benefit a lot from an amp costing 20 times more

The PA2V2 amp sounds nice enough with a pair of portapros or any other koss phone using the 60 ohm driver.

probably the best budget combo rig with a cardas interconnect for under 100$, minus the source.

60$ to your door for the amp
20+5 ship fee for portapro2 @ J&R or less if you go with clip-ons; under 14$ + 5$ ship fee for ksc75 or ktxpro1 @ amazon
14 + free shipping for a cardas interconnect @ TR audio

= 99$ total

that's one of my main setups hooked up to one of my Hi-Minidisc players.

enjoy!

Yes

It's also that the NX-01 goes "in the direction" of the Koss PortaPro.
The extremely low output impedance of the amp is really appreciated by the little Koss, which has "strong" bass itself (and this amp helps to quick and linearize the bass), and also the transparent and very airy highs of the Rudi helps the Koss to "open" a bit, resulting in a sound that it's surprisingly audiophile, for the price of the PortaPro.

Happy music

Heh, because of this thread I pulled mine out to give them a listen. I had threw them in a cabinet because I got a rattle in them and was going to eventually send them to Koss to be fixed. Well that was about two years ago and in the meantime I got a set of PX200s for my portable and some ATH-A500s for my computer.

I took them out just now and played them and they still had the rattle but I noticed it was only in one ear. I popped the earpiece off and look at the back of it and two staples made their way to get stuck on the magnets, they used to be in my backpack so that figures. Put it back together and the rattle is gone and I'm blown away at how they sound since it's been so long since I used them. I'll have to make room for them on my desk now.

I wanted to know if the portapros leak at much sound as the px100s. I am new to the whole headphone thing (I have been more of a earphone/bud guy but I am want to take a dive into the headphone world), but I do not like my music to leak and let everyone else listen in to my music. Maybe I should to stick to my earphones. Any suggestions?
