I don't think it's that they sound like mad dogs, I think it's becuase they sound like modded mk2s (which is what mad dogs are). They are the same driver for the most part, just with sight changes here and there, similar to what people, modders, pros ect do to their mk2s

Vent turning, baffle turning, felt on the back of the driver to tighten things up

SeEnCreaTive so you think these mk3's are good right Outta the box?

It was on an impression thread. I think it was @AnakChan.

Anyway, so the mk3's at least sound better without mods compared to the mk2?

Depends on taste, but I'd prefer the mk3 more than the mk2 - both in stock form.

I heard mk3's are similar to alpha dogs... Can anyone confirm??

The question was about comparing the mk3 to the Alpha Dogs, not Mad Dogs.

Also seems my "reminiscent of the Alpha Dogs" & "the Mk3 still isn't an Alpha Dog" has been watered down to "similar to alpha dogs". If there's a mis-understanding, do let me know how I can clarify.

The comments are clear. I guess I don't post enough for people to know I exaggerate for effect.

Sounds like I might get the new t50rp and not worry about modification. Thanks for the information.

I am currently waiting for a K612 pro by mail, and just discovered this thread. They are exactly the same price as the T50RP.
AKG headphones are usually a bit analytical and flat, and thats what I like. Could somebody explain in a few words how to describe the sound signature of the Fostex? Thanks

in my opinion they are more like warm/natural sounding than analytical. But after modding they sound... whatever you like... and extends on both ends, more details etc. I have k701 early model with few tweaks and Fostex can outperform them in any department beside soundstage size. But its not like they are like that without any modifications or with lousy ones. MK3 is really nice straight out of the box but its not like its a masterpiece. So it depends if you would like to spend some time modding them and revealing their inner beauty.

edit:
I mean, I didnt mod my mk3 yet but its still the same gem, probably will just need different cut polish

OK I never really modded any headphones... can you make a quick 1-2-3 lists of popular mods for the Mk3 ?

Thanks again for your concise answer!

Just be careful. Those are for the mk2. Although they are the same driver, there are other changes to baffle, venting damp ect that could void those mods

That being said musiclife the mk3s haven't been out long enough for the modding community to really grab hold and get some measurements. So right now, mod all you like and tune to your taste.

Common mods include stuffing the cups, adding sound foam, putting felt on the back of the driver (mk3s look like they have that already though), tuning the vents

Great headphones.
A bit hyper-analytical and a tad punched @10kHz, but wow, nothing short of $700 is going to give you more detail retrieval and separation of instruments.
Does not have the upper mid honk of the HiFiMann 400i., which is a GOOD thing.
Pleather ear pads chosen are unfortunate and the branding is not so clever, however the sound is like Oppo PM-3 on steroids.
As a matter of fact if these were as comfy as the Oppo-PM-3 or the B&W 7s then they'd be world class.
Soundwise, they are stunning @$500, and @ $150 they are miraculous.

Are you talking about mk2 or mk3, modded or stock?

Are you talking about mk2 or mk3, modded or stock?

Yes.

the New ones.......T50RP Mk-3.

These are definitely for people who want to wear  a stereo laser on their ears to view all the details within their favorite music.
You know, you always hear a reviewer say....."wow, i heard things in the music......etc".......= well, its a fact with these headphones.
If you put these on your head and dont hear immediately more of everything related to details in the music, then you have been harming your hearing with too much headphone volume.
You hear everything with these...., and maybe thats not for everyone,.... but if U like your headphone sound to  be  EXTREMELY pristine, accurate, and a tad north of neutral in overall tonal balance, then id wager you will love these headphones.
I can guarantee that even if you dont like their particular focus and tonality, you will never think that they are not worth at least 2x the price.
These are worth buying simply because of the outstanding value they represent regarding the amazing clarity they provide.
Maybe this type of detail retrieval  is overkill for some, but as i said, if you can deal with extreme analytical musical diagnosis and dont mind a touch of extra 10kHz bump then, jump on these.
I sold my Oppo 3's as i dont need them now,  as the FstxT50Mk3's  provide the same brightness and crisp presentation > yet even more detail retrieval for nearly 25% of the price.
Thats crazy in a good way.
Are the Oppo's very good?......Yes........are the T50M3s better?...No, not better, but nearly as good for about 25% of the cost.
All this F-50Mk3 needs is better softer thicker COOLER cups, as this is the only real downside to the listening experience it provides.
If you have heard Senn HD600d then you have a good idea of what kind of sonic fastball the Fstx RP-50Mk3's are pitching.
Are they better then the Senn HD600s?.....No, but, at 25% of the cost, they are close enough to not worry about it.
Yes, its that type of tonal and  experience, yet, it offers a  slightly better bass  because of the semi-closed design.
If you decide to pull the trigger, and after they arrive, go directly here and listen and trip.....
This is perhaps one of the very best "headphone" tests you can give your cans, and be sure to change the video resolution to 780p.
