And resonances in the upper mids and treble is where most headphones have trouble, and so it's the most important thing to look at.

Agreed...  It's probably worth posting these again for comparison....  This is the LCD-2 waterfall plot.

This is the Reversible pants:

It is remarkably good compared to stock, and in fact is really close to the LCD2.

And this is the Rastapants O2:

The data on the Rastapants O2 c1.2 is NOT smoothed or filtered, it's done on the exact same test rig.  The attack and decay on these are as fast as anything I have ever heard, and the waterfall shows just why that's so...

The Rastapants' waterfall and transient response simply outperforms the other two, and that is why the cans sound so super-duper clean but not at all dry.  That said, the Reversible Pants are LCD2 fast, and for how easy the mod is and how linear the output is, it seems a slam dunk easy to introduce someone to T50 fun and goodness!  I know there are other easy mods, and I am not trying to say this is better as I have not heard most, but it sure can't be beat for easy to do with big bang for the buck...

That album is regarded as being horribly mastered!

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Otherside

Sibilance within the first few seconds...particularly on the word "slide" (mixed in with some distortion!).

Thanks guys for the tracks suggestions!
I had an idea of what sibilance meant, but considering most of my music don't have highly sibilant-able parts to them I never had a concise idea of how it would feel. I thought my HP-1 was sibilant, but turns out it wasn't, or at least not as much as my Fostex. The HP-1 had better treble extension I'd assume, and I was just not used to it

Though from the track leeperry suggested, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Red Right Hand, seems I also have to work much more on the bass! Once my exams are over these things are getting operated.

I guess this tune could be seen as a torture test for the T50RP. You'll need killer amping and a darn miracle altogether in order to make its bass line loud and clear off this phone IMHO.

BMF seems to have a killer damping scheme up his sleeve, very eager to read about it

Point taken. Just tried again with my dynamic headphones (bassier ones--HA-M750 & PortaPro) and they very easily bring out those lows.

Thinking of starting out modding with a 'fresh' pair though. That is, by removing everything inside up till now. Maybe minus the plasticine since I'm just lazy to :P and possibly attempt those irreversibles.

I switched back to Beyerdynamic T70s this week.  Had been listening to the modded T50RPs for months with the Ming Da amp, Cambridge Audio DACMagic and 1st gen AppleTV running lossless file.  Really liked the way they sounded.  However, I switched back to the T70s and rolled in some vintage Sylvania black plate 12AT7s (to tame the highs).........I must say the T70s sound better........more refined and cleaner sounding, albeit at 4.5X the price.

Tomorrow is April Fools day, and we all know what that means! Tyll will be announcing the winners of the modding competition!

Well ... April 1 is when the contest is done. But I got a bunch here at the last minute so it'll be late in the week before I make the contest winners announcement.
