Excellent review Naim, I,m in complete agreement with you, a further improvement is to be had replacing the stock cable, these headphones will soak up extra power like a grateful sponge.
When I hook them up to the Stepdance and a linear external 15 volt power supply which is the maximum for the Stepdance they then become things of great sonic beauty, more air, definition and better low end extension, tighter bass, the WoW factor achieved.

Personally I have had no problem with the fit or finish, the stock pads are perfect (for me) the clamping due to the headband was originally a bit tight, though its easy to bend to a good fit.
You can fit any pad onto various headphones, sometimes for better but mostly for worse , the only issue I had was with the stock cable which I replaced.

Lucky you.

The clamping force on mine wasn't all too good. The stock pads don't provide a good seal either and I am guessing the stock cable will also need to be replaced in the near future.

You can bend the copper colored bars to get a better clamp, they were light for me too. Deoxit fixes the scratchiness and channel dropout with the cable. The rx900 pads sound very similar to the stock ones but are much more comfortable to me and have a great seal.

I did bend the headband and that gave me better pressure. I'll try Deoxit.

As for the pads, I am using my spare pleather Fischer FA-003 pads. Great comfort and great seal.

I received and modded my T40RPs. The headband is not as bad as it looks, once bent it fit quite well. After modding the difference is incredible. I had to go back in 5-6 times to get rid of the resonance and tune the way I want. I'm going to burn them in over the next week until my 840 pads arrive, no using the DT880's until the modding is complete. I'm tempted to experiment with removing the felt once the new pads are on. I'm listening to some George Clinton now and I'm very impressed with what less than $100 can get: $67 cans, $10 modding supplies, and $17 for one use of Deoxit lol. Thanks for the paperclip vent opening trick, Sardonyx.

Well...here is what my modded T50RP's look like - they are very comfy with the new modified Fischer Audio pads and provide a great seal:

Ooo... I think that would be too much pressure for me.

I found to unbend the metal spring band to put on loosely to keep the pressure off my temples.

But, oooo.... that seems like it would hurt. But, that's just me.

Yeah...I guess I don't have as big a head as I originally thought based upon this mod and my review of the Fischer Audio FA-011 which I thought were super comfortable.

I don't have that big of a head either.

My T50RP's have my custom 2inch thick pads on it and look huge. I'm an inch from ending the run of the rails.

But for some reason, Germans have small heads. Sennheiser gives me a run for my money to see if my head fits.

Japanese for some reason had HUGE head, or they think they do. Some Sony and Audio Technica's just seem huge on my head.

Oxymoron, huh?

Just goes to show how unique we really are.

Why the black socks?

It's actually the top elastic part of some female socks. The FA-003 pads are too small to fit over the cups of the T50RP, so my wife cut the top part of some new socks of hers and sowed them on my FA-003 pads so that they would stay in place. It actually turned out quite nice.

I was running some standard test tones through them and I could feel all the way down to 13Hz.

After the mods, these sound very natural to me and I can't seem to place a finger on something they are doing wrong....

I need to get these measured to see if my ears are lying to me or not.
