I have been lurking the forum and I have seen good reviews/recommendation for the D4 as a USB dac/amp, but I cant find anyone saying it pairs up nicely with 225.

Anyone has any opinion about matching grado 225 with the D4, or can you recommend any good USB dac/amp that works nicely with the 225. Thank you very much. I listen to rock/metal mostly if that matters.

While I don't currently own a set of Grados, I have not heard of any complaints on the forums about the D4 not matching well with the Grados.  Here is a link to a D4 user who likes the D4/SR60i synergy.

The D4 plays well with most any headphone that has a reasonable degree of sensitivity.

i have the D4, and i've spent a little time with it and the SR225.
great match.
the D4 has ample bass and a very slightly dark sound signature that pairs very well with the Grados.

I am now listening to Mullmuzzler (James Labrie's solo work) with my Grado SR225is + D4 Mamba and I can say that I am very happy with what I am hearing. I've just heard some background keyboard part that I've never heard before :) D4 seems to help balancing the shrillness of my Grados a bit and it is now making me question my decision of selling my Grados which is not good news for my wallet!!!

I am looking for an amp+dac for my grado 325is , and I primarily listen to heavy metal. I was thinking of one of these :

NuForce uDAC2
Total bithead
iBasso D4

Recommendations, advice please!!!

Cheers

never heard the Bithead but having owned both Udac2 and d4, I can say D4 is way better than Udac2

I am actually wondering the same thing. I am getting a pair of 225i's in a few weeks and am thinking of getting a D2+ for Christmas.

The D2+ will make a great Christmas present to yourself and should sound great with your 225's.
