yeah its got more than a passing resemblance doesnt it.  not that i ever actually got my hands on a pair and now they dont make them anymore.
 
why no hybrid love though?  it because hybrids tend to be crazy V shaped?

Not trying to put the nails in the coffin for the Delta or anything; hybrids are just not my thing. Most hybrids just don't sound right to me. They've either got some kind of funky time/phase misalignment, or like you mentioned, a silly signature. The DN-2000J and K3003 are impressive, but I can't say they have the kind of sound I love and cherish. And even when they do get it right on the technical side, I find that there are performance limitations to the single BA/dynamic paradigm. This kind of design usually will require the dynamic driver to do the bulk of the work, and thus the dynamic driver needs to be very good (i.e. precise venting, well-damped for resonance, breakup nodes moved into the uppermost treble, etc.) --- might as well just use a single dynamic. The BA ends up merely making the sound a little "different", not necessarily better IMHO.
 
The Audeo shape is excellent. Hearing aid specialists usually do a great job with fit and comfort.
 
 
On the topic of photography: because these products are all very metallic, the light modifiers used will have to be placed very close to the source (or very, very large) for the softest possible light. I'd recommend an overhead softbox/strip light placed into a scrim placed obliquely to produce a very smooth gradient across the metallic surface of these earphones, along with a reflective piece of plexiglass to produce reflections. Pieces of white/black foam core or mirrors can be placed around the earphones to shine reflections onto the earphones in specific places.

oh id agree that hybrids are often dialed up to crazy just to show off what it can do, they dont all though.  still i totally get your feeling on the matter.  i have similar about the recent fad of sticking 50 drivers in each ear (cough* westone cough*) as if to say oh more drivers = better.  like how many people think more bass = better.
 
though not to blow my own trumpet as it were but i think that i and my two compatriots have a fairly set of ears between us and from discussions were had we all rate three rather highly.  of course there is no substitute for hearing yourself so, fingers crossed you get the chance to hear the Delta, its pretty good stuff.  did you ever hear the Kommand?

To those who have heard so far, are the Delta another U or V-shape hybrid??

The unique aspect about Delta is there isn't really one signature due to its multiple filters. You mould the sound how 'you want' between 3 interchangeable filter designs, and of course, different tips. Brooko has written a small summary what these filters will achieve, and I believe this is the 'first' hybrid I've seen / heard with a filter system in this price range (to the best of my knowledge)


  1. Delta

    Reminded me lot of the Kommand - but with slightly different tuning.  3 filters - not sure what Bob is going to call them, but my thoughts are
     
     - "fun" (silver - at least prototypes were) = V shaped, some heat up top, deep bass with good impact, again similar to an Altone200 type sound 
     
     - "smooth" (gun-metal) = slight V shape, but really natural progression from bass to mid-range to treble.  Very natural sounding.  Clear but non fatiguing.  I loved this filter.
     
     - "vivid" (originally gold, but think final colour may be purple) = a little less bass, and subsequently more mid-range and treble emphasis.  Again really clear.

Tomorrow I will get some macro shots of the cable, its almost like a piece of weaved rope and feels like it, you'd be hard pressed to tell theres even copper wire inside very light. Shares some resemblance to Fidue A83 cable but taken to a slightly higher level of quality aesthetically and weight wise.

The case looks like the one that came with my daughter's Lady Gaga Beats (don't hammer me - she's young - and they have already broken - she is using a pair of Phonak 022s with green filter now)
