I use a Moon Audio Silver Dragon as well – and haven't tried any other so far.

The same here: Silver Dragon V3 balanced cable. I did not try other aftermarket cables, but I am very satisfied with it.

I have an ALO flagship cable for the LCD3  - it is 16-thread or something, forgot it ridiculous name.  My question: Can I re-terminate it to use it with the HE1000? I really want to give the best to the HE1000. The best of the best of the best.

Yes, that should be relatively easy to do.

Which cables did you compare it to/have prior to the Silver Dragon? What made you settle on them?

Nothing else but the stock cables – and I found the shorter 1/8" cable slightly better than the unnecessarily long 1/4" cable.

Just got my HE1000 today.

It's only been a small amount of burn-in time, but I can certainly tell the difference from initial plug in.  Less sibilance, tighter bass, and airier presentation.

Only build quality issue I have is the left swivel is not as tight as the right swivel, causing it to easily swivel the left ear cup vs. the right.  Not a large enough problem to issue an RMA, IMO, as the headphones will primarily be on my head and not swiveling.  The fit of these headphones is superb, and I'd personally rate the comfort above the HD800.  I find the HD800 a little loose on the headband setting that fits my head.  Any smaller settings and I feel like the driver is too high on my head.  No such issue with the HEK, and it was literally made for my head size on the smallest setting.

I love the HD800, but really didn't like the HD800S.  I felt like the HD800S didn't have the treble sparkle that portrayed an expansive and impressive soundstage.  I also felt like the HD800S had an unnatural sounding bass for the music I listen to.  The HEK is what I would have wanted the HD800S to sound like.  A pair of headphones with HD800-like soundstaging, a warmer envelope, and some kick@ss bass!

Haven't done an in depth comparison on the Stratus vs. the LAu with the HEK, but I can say that they both drive the HEK to a very pleasurable level.  Perhaps that's next after the HEK has had about 90 hours of burn in.

For the left swivel, my first one had same issue, and the 2nd one I have is better but still.
However, I find it getting better over time, and like you said it sit on head fine, no an issue at all.

When you say you find it getting better over time, do you mean that the right swivel becomes not as tight?

I am looking to begin building a system for dedicated headphone listening starting with the HiFiMan 1000. At the moment I am willing to spend another 3-4K after purchasing the HEK for an amp and a decent power conditioner. Right now all of my source music is on an Apple laptop with CDs copied via apple lossless. I find using the laptop a pain and was also hoping to get some advice using an iPad as a music server. Has anyone put together a good system with an iPad? Is there a better simple alternative for a music server and excellent DAC ? Eventually, I may just get the MacIntosh MHA 100 $4500 with DAC and end my spending and start enjoying the music. What about starting with one of the inexpensive amps offer by HiFi man?

Looking forward to... Woo Audio? LOL. Thanks but I'll pass. There are some much better names in the industry called "McIntosh" or "Goldmund". Hope you guys have heard about those rather than just Schitt and Woo.
