Strange. Mine have 5 more modes (Linear IIR, Linear Phase, Maximum Phase, Minimum Phase and Curve). Different versions, maybe?

What does it do anyway?

I'm really hoping to audition a black-driver HE400 sometime in my life, to hear what it could have sounded like.

Anybody know what was 'wrong' with the black driver verison?

First and foremost, they were prone to failing.  You'll notice that later iterations of the He-400 have more complex plastic surrounding the magnetic structures.  People have also said that they tended to sound too dark.

I recall some posts WAAAAAY back, where someone tried J$, Lawton, and even some older style Beyer DT 880 pads (apparently they fit after messing with them for an hour) and in the end they still preferred the HiFiMan velours the most.

Is there extra padding/foam in this headband or am I seeing things?

Nah there's no extra padding there, but I may have something to show later on today related to the headband

I tried and didn't like the beyer headband on my he-400.

Yeah im not fond of that headband mod either, it doesn't fit well around the he-400's headband. Anyway looks like I'll have something to show on Monday now

beaver316, did you use felt for the pad material sewed on? I couldn't find the original post but I do remember you having a hard time finding velour material that was similar to the velour pad material.

Can someone pretty please make velour (or even pleather) jergs for me? Would gladly pay and leave excellent feedback.

Mine have fallen apart too many times now and its both physically (stiff) and aurally painful to go back to stock velours.

It's not that I'm lazy, I'm just craftsmen incompetent.

Located in Maryland. PM if interested.
