**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

  My new office rig.
Slightly modified HE-400 (focus pads and added original HE-6 grill foam)
Powered by miniwatt V1 and the line out on x1.
This sounds way better then it should for the price.

Looks lovely - How do you like dem' Focuspads? I would like to know what you think the differences are from the other pads (if any). Have you tried listening straight from the X1?

Just tried switching my focus pad from my HE-560 on the HE-400.  The focus pads seems to make the bass go deeper and a little more full.  The highs seem about the same but the upper mids seem are a little more forward.

For $39, I can live with the velour pads, also, the HE-400 does not have notches so the focus pads keep spinning around.

I recently switched back from focuspads to velours. Felt bass tighten up, treble peak exists, but I feel that the focuspads may have actually made the whole 'phone brighter by bringing up areas around the peak. And I don't have to squish my big ears into tiny earholes (which for me lost some soundstage).

Which velours are you using?

Are you talking about the 400 or 400i?

My post about switching back to the velours was referring to the HE-400. I tried adding the velours to the 400i once and I recall disliking the results. sound-wise and comfort-wise. And I still prefer HE-400 with focuspads for rock
