I think that's a consequence of USB architecture, probably. That would require a hub, which introduces scheduling challenges with the host, etc. For pure digital out could just disconnect the dock interconnects and run USB out of the DAP. Granted, that makes the cradle little more than a pretty place to lay the RS8....
I don't think I've used mine with RS8 for more than a quick experiment, but I thought RS6 was a very nice combo with LIRIC (helped to offset some of its weaker points), so it follows that RS8 should be a great pairing. Call that untested theory at this point, but I've got high confidence + expectations.
"Click"? Maybe? When I think of "click" I think of the rewarding tactile feel of a nice stepped attenuator. What my knob does is more like a car with no suspension going over a speed bump--little grind once per revolution. It's not pleasant, but it's not broken enough to bother with an exchange.
The DSD noise is well documented back in the RS6; I also wonder why Hiby did not notice this. I don't think Hiby pays much attention to head-fi. I was to guess that it is about resource allocation, and they don't see anyone using the RS8 family for DSD playback.
Hiby is not just a hardware company, they were first a software/OEM company, and my guess is their Engineers are busy working on high-return projects elsewhere, which is why the DSD noise issue is still not fully fixed.
It is a shame as one of my favourite way to use RS6 is to use HQ player and feed it upsampled DSD file.
That's not the case, but rather, that I, being their pretty much only point of contact with head-fi, have been working at this part-part time for the past 3 years.
While I'm still working at this part-time, I have reduced my other obligations recently, which hopefully means I have more time to spend here.

Have you tried using it? I try almost everything and it is one of the most useless products ever.
1) It does not cool off the RS8 which doesn't need it anyway and the dock needs to be plugged in and it doesn't charge the DAP.
2) You need an extra cable in the signal path which degrades sound. Having high quality XLR interconnects is a total waste of money given the rest of chain.
3) You have to turn off screen lock so that the RS8 displays in landscape mode and that is annoying when going back to use it as a DAP.
4) Weight is a proxy for size. It takes up unnecessary space on the desktop.
5) The quality of the RS8 as a DAC/Amp replacement in a desktop system is very very weak relative to the alternatives.
I would be shocked if it is a success in the market.
I will let you have the rest depending on how you look at it but what's with point one? That flies completely in the face of everything about the dock. It does cool the RS8 and it does charge the DAP, that's like the first two design points of the thing. What am I missing here

The RS8 does not need cooling. I have literally been listening to it over the past 3 hours and it is not even luke warm. My M9 and N8ii get hot, so I can see having a cooling device for them. If it cools it off, I don't see the fan. Maybe I am missing something.
For charging, I was thinking wireless charging which would be value-added. If you mean that USB-C port charges the DAP, I haven't tried that and that is no different than plugging it into the wall. I thought the USB-C port was for using the DAP transport to a DAC. If it indeed does charge the DAP while providing a USB signal to a DAC, that is indeed value-added because you cannot do both at the same time otherwise.
No. 174 / production Dec 12 touched down today. Quick-n-dirty iPhone photos. Testing Native DSD1024 playback, no noise so far. Only 30 minutes of burn in and can already tell this relationship will be long term despite the Ti fingerprint sensitive finish.
Note, despite its weight, loving how balanced it feels in hand.
Update: Hearing some faint digital noise during native DSD256 playback - most prominent with DSD filter set to Darwin 1.
DSD filter set to Darwin Default would be my recommendation.
10:36PM EST – Reevaluating DSD playback after factory reset.
Haven't been able to replicate with Darwin Default.
Other quick initial notes: RS8 gives me iBasso DX300MAX SS vibes. Soundstage is f'ing exceptional on FiR Xe6.

For cooling, it contacts the device (with case off) and acts as a heatsink. There's a big chunk of metal radiator block inside for that. Of course, this only cools the device if its back heats up significantly.
Yes, the USB-C plug does charge the DAP while at the same time connecting it to the USB port on the dock, which is itself also mains-powered. So you can connect power-hungry spinning hard drives to it for reading and playing on the DAP (e.g. out through one of the various other ports on the dock), or, yes, connect a DAC (which will also be receiving mains power, if it needs that).

If anyone in here is interested in N8ii for RS8, please let me know. While I think detail extraction/reproduction is better on N8ii, I simply enjoy RS8 general sound reproduction a lot more. It is lot less distracting. It is one of those thing once you hear, you can't unhear.
Random discovery tonight for CR08 owners: it works perfectly as a passive dock! Coax out plays just fine with the dock switched off, which means you're not having to constantly charge the RS8 or have the LEDs on the dock lighting up the room while playing. Who knew? No wonder there's no need for battery bypass.
Hey there, I just shared some results I saw earlier. I had a sp3000 for several weeks. I was struggling to decide which one to keep at that time (N8ii, RS8 and SP3000).
I posted here because I also have a RS8.
Just share information, no other implications. Good day, mate.

Currently Yes. But, I might keep n8ii, if went back then. Hah~ N8ii is the most balanced one.
The SP3000 is the most beautiful one though, IMO. RS8 is the most special one.
There are several DAPs coming 2023, including LP E7, and Cayin's rumor. So, just get ready for next update.
