My thoughts and impressions on the Hiby RS6 after owning it for some time now:

Sound Impressions:
After having the iBasso DX300 + Amp11mk2 for over 8 months, I knew something was missing from my music that I couldn't pinpoint. After some discussion among friends one of them suggested I try the Hiby RS6 and I am so glad I did! The RS6 provided a sense of warmth and excitement in my music that I was missing from the DX300. The DX300 also leans brights which doesn't play well with bright-leaning transducers that I own, like the Symphonium Audio Helios, so the easier treble listening + better dynamics + warmth is an easy win for me for the RS6 over the DX300.

Usability and Features:
-The Darwin software is great and a tinkerer's dream, I can really see endless possibilities from the DSP engine and I hope it'll be supported in the future!
-The poweramp equalizer app does work with the RS6 which didn't on the DX300 so that means you can easily apply PEQ if you so choose to, I don't know if the Darwin function will work though.
-Having the volume wheel protected and not protruding means you can easily put this in your pocket and not have to worry about accidentally turning off the DX300 (which has happened to me in many occasions)
-The idle auto-shutdown feature is a great idea and I'm surprised more DAP manufacturers don't have this.
-This is a fast DAP! Very snappy like the DX300 and fits in the palm of your hand

Misc Thoughts:
I bought this Hiby RS6 from MusicTeck. Communicating with Andrew was an easy and delightful experience. I had wanted to change my shipping after I made my order on MusicTeck and Andrew was very quick on helping me get sorted. For those US based, I'd recommend getting from MusicTeck because you'll get quick warranty support if something were to happen and shipping won't cost an arm and a leg.

Conclusion:
I've sold my DX300 and am happy to call the RS6 my endgame DAP (for now I guess).
RS6 Match very well with full BA iems as Aroma Ace, Custom Art Fibae7 ultimate and Oriveti OV800+Affinity2 cable.

Oh Darwin will still work, no worries there.

as we re talking about where Darwin is being applied, can you answer for certain which common apps are supported through Darwin?
We've been speculating about that before but I'd like to know the answers officially.
- Qobuz?
- Tidal (with and without playing MQA)?
- Apple Music?
- UApp (bitperfect and standard)

Thx!

Darwin is among other things an installable FIR AA filter system running at double the system audio sample rate. It is in action all the time as long as the system audio sample rate is at or below 96kHz. Above that and it doesn't function (there is no point) whatever the app.

Thx alot!
So that will cover at least most of the hires music in AppleMusic and Qobuz < 192kHz
Tidal MQA is out-of-scope due to the full RS6 unfold

That's correct

@Joe Bloggs any update on the new firmware that corrects the broken functionality of windows USB3 audio DAC?

@Joe Bloggs Can I find out how your Darwin filters differ from native ones? It may be placebo, but I always use filter number 3 (post-Nyq brickwall, whatever that means), and when I load your filters into the RS6, it seems to me that the DAP sounds even better on the same filter number 3. Can you explain this somehow ?

Hi,

1. Post-Nyq brickwall is my observation of that particular filter, which is that it's a brickwall filter placed very high in frequency, almost higher than the Nyquist frequency itself.
2. If you're using this version https://www.head-fi.org/threads/hib...-copper-chassis.958878/page-114#post-16715371 , it is explained in the post that the system Darwin filters were clipping somewhat with a full scale sine sweep going through them, and I lowered their gain by a few dB depending on the particular filter, which may help get a cleaner sound out of very saturated, loud recordings.
3. Although, I'm curious as I was told you couldn't load my filters in the latest firmware update anymore?

The ability to select those filters that are signed with your names is gone (for example, "Joe Bloggs minimum phase" or something like that); but at the same time, after adding all your filters on the RS6, when choosing a Post-Nyq filter, I hear a noticeable improvement in the overall sound quality. I really think that the RS6 with these filters sounds better, more natural and cleaner, and it is with these filters that I get the maximum pleasure from the sound of this DAP. Stock filters sound worse (my opinion).

My guess is that the total number of filters to choose from has been limited to 10 now, so if you edit my files and put different filters in different sets, you might still be able to switch between them.

I think I figured out where your filters went... Just a bug with names, as far as I understand.

Hmm, so what do I need to do to get these filters?

When I look at "Darwin Controller->Low-pass antialiasing filter setting" menu, I have "Darwin Default" and "Darwin1-10", and when I change them, I can't hear any difference between them...

.
Switchable oversampling / NOS

NOS mode bypasses oversampling and antialiasing, responding instantaneously to transients and stairsteps, converting to analog in the most raw and direct manner possible; Oversampling mode removes aliasing artifacts, enables all functions of the Darwin architecture, realizes personalized adjustments of sound signature, adapting to different earphones
