Hiby R6 Pro II (2023 Edition) - Launch, Hype, Thoughts & More

According to my first impressions It's a big step up after the R6 III in every way. It feels much more exclusive. Very good value for the price difference. more analogue presentation, more front mids, much better background detail, better separation, cleaner highs, better screen....

With the early impressions from users pretty excited for this one.

I recently purchased the hiby RS2 for myself as a first dap ( still in shipping). Will get to try the r6 pro 2 soon. If anyone can compare the rs2+ nx7 ( or other amp ) vs the R6 pro 2 that would be quite helpful.

I was first concerned about battery but I don’t ever go over 3 hrs of consecutive listening so should be fine.

The technical performance of the RS2 is much weaker. Compared to the R6 pro2, there is a narrow and close stage, besides a dark sound presentation. The R6 pro2 is more realistic with a far and wide scene presentation, clearer mids and cleaner background image.
I have a question about the player specifications.

Is there a/an failure mistake about the ARM from Qualcomm the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 clocks to 2.2 GHz not to 1.8 GHz or have i woolly thoughts?!

Can one help me to understand^^ thank you!

Snapdragon 665 has the octa-core Kryo 260 CPU.

  • 665/662: 4x Kryo 260 Gold (Cortex-A73 derivative) @ 2.0 GHz + 4x Kryo 260 Silver (Cortex-A53derivative) @ 1.8 GHz

yeah, battery life on the r6 pro2 isn't going to be amazing, but the big bright screen is a fairly big drain - my quick test with screen off using Class A, mid gain, 50% volume driving my Fostex TH900s got me about 4.5 hours with 26% left, so that's about 6 hours playing time. Class AB/low gain, which I would use with IEMs is more efficient, so I think 8-10 hours should be doable.

Hopefully more R6 Pro IIs get out into reviewers‘ hands soon. It will be great to get comparisons to comparably priced offerings from others…. We keep coming back to how great the Pro II is, but how disappointing the battery life is (and to a lesser extent the output power). With more units out there it will be good to see how all features stack up and if there are equally compelling offerings without the sacrifices…

My opinion, and just my opinion, the feature I would find least compelling in a DAP is a big, bright, screen. I do like a big, bright, screen, but it is way down the priority list for a DAP whose role is audio, not audio visual. For audio visual I will stick with my mobile phone.

I absolutely agree that a large screen is low on my list of priorities for a DAP - and frankly I would prefer a more compact size for ease of use. The design of the circuit board with the dual dacs/balanced outputs may be the culprit for the dimensions of the chassis, especially if they were chasing a lower noise floor than the previous generation (which was very prone to interference and background hiss). Given that, they may have just slapped on the nicest screen they could on the chassis they had to build - and at 1080 x 2160 it is a *very* nice screen :)
